How does a person defend against such a claim? Can you prove where you were on a particular day in 1974?

For something that happened 40 years ago? Is that legal? I mean, I have no idea what happened. He may be guilty and a total asshole. I don't know the guy from Adam. But a lawsuit after 40 years? Even just logistically, how do you make a case for such a crime? Are there going to be corroborating witnesses from the Playboy Mansion?

I gotta say, this whole thing about "outing" rapists makes me feel really uncomfortable and I'm a consent fanatic.

I really don't see how this is legal. The statue of limitations for personal injury is within two years of the incident or discovery of injury. Or in the case of minors, before you turn 26, ie-you have eight years after you turn 18 to file suit, or within 3 years of the discovery of abuse of a minor. California Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1

There any lawyers who can clear things up?

If he's innocent, then I'm hoping that he provides the facts of the case and countersues for alot of money for wasting his time.

I think all of this underlines why anonymity for both parties should be adopted as a standard in cases like this: I've no idea if he's guilty or innocent (nor does anyone else except him and those women) but he's already been tried in the court of public opinion and had his career hit as a result.
