Brock was released with a few conditions, including that he remain in the state, not possess firearms and not use drugs. A new trial was scheduled for February, but it wasn't clear prosecutors would proceed with it, given that the girl's story was the primary evidence against him.

This angers me greatly because the injustice carries on, just to a "lesser" degree.

Washington state adopted a law last year allowing wrongly convicted defendants to be reimbursed $50,000 for each year of incarceration if they can prove they were innocent of the felony they were convicted of. O'Connor said he did not know if Brock planned to file a claim under that provision.

There might be recourse though.

An 11 year old is not the one at fault here, it is the state. Coming forward like that rather that just living on comfortably with it like she could have takes some modicum of courage, though the fact that she had no idea whatsoever about the result of him being prosecuted or what his situation was when she recanted surprises me. No one can expect an 11 year old to act with everyone's best interest at hand (especially when she believed she would be taken away from her mother) or fully comprehend the consequences for Brock. Although 31 may be a bit late, she had the opportunity to never reveal the truth at all and chose not to take it, so levying any serious charges against her would be wrong, in my opinion, although apparently she is most likely protected due to being a minor at the time anyways (which is interesting, what if the truth had been discovered rather than her coming forward? Would she still be protected then?). But the word of a troubled 11 year old putting a man away for life by itself has to be indicative of some kind of problem.
