i had a conversation with a friend who is in a band about this. after seeing the inside of bar bathrooms, and groupies' homes, his opinion is that men are dirtier than women in general, but the grossest of women have men beat by far.

Disgusting apartments are gender neutral. Both men and women can be disgusting in equal numbers from my experience.

Well, my ex's house was a fucking pig-sty. I do not buy the whole 'women are tidier and cleaner than men' stereotype. However, most of my male friends' places are shabbier than my female friends' abodes. And there are worse stereotypes floating about than this miniscule issue.

I used to work many years ago as a telephone installer. While I occasionally came upon some pretty gross homes occupied by only males, the most grossly kept homes regularly belonged to cat ladies!

I had a side-job managing apartment buildings for a couple years when I was in my early 30's. The most disgusting tenants were always pairs of 20-something girls.

My mother often helps clear out houses of people who can no longer care for themselves and have been taken to nursing homes (she belongs to a social support organization that does this free of charge). She dreads going to the houses of single, old women and cleaning them up because they are almost always a complete pit. She is going through a lady's house this week as a matter of fact, and she found several bags of "groceries" that have been sitting there on the counter rotting for months. The floor of the bathroom was covered with hair trimmings... I'll let your imagination go where it wants with that one. Every chair was covered with food.

The absolute worst was the bathroom of a woman who went insane because of long-term, too-high fever. She'd gotten a bladder infection (because she didn't wash, her attitude was that women don't sweat and don't get dirty), so of course it hurt her to pee, so she didn't drink anything... Anyways, her toilet seat and toilet were covered with blood and pus. Thank God her kitchen hadn't been used in years, so it wasn't too bad... but that was the only clean part of the house. The whole house smelled like body odor. The bedroom was filled with dirty clothes, many covered with urine, blood, and pus. Some of the clothes hadn't been cleaned since the early 1990's (and this was about 2008 when this was happening). This woman had grown up during the depression, so she saved everything - envelopes, old letters, all of it. She hadn't actually opened her mail in 2-3 years by the end.

Most of the old guy's houses she goes through are fairly neat. The worst for her is finding the old military trunks, filled with awards and stuff that they generally don't talk about. The kitchens are usually not too bad because they eat out a lot but the bathrooms are often not wonderful. The worst story she's brought back from an old man's house was finding his porn collection with a HUGE bottle of Aveeno lotion and a box of kleenex. The guy was in his mid 90's and still spankin' it to Playboys from the 70's.

She never saw my ex-wife's apartment.

You never would have guessed that about her if you met her in public though. Very tidy with make-up and hair, but her bathroom sink looked like an outhouse latrine.

I did a lot of work for landlords in the past. Routine maintenance, repairs, installations and clean-outs when the tenants were evicted, and the overwhelming vast majority of pig sties were the ones women had the leases.

It's a stereotype, but not at all true across the board. Just watch Hoarders, you'd be surprised at how many people on that show are female.

From my personal experience, women are just as messy as men. And men can tend to be cleaner (or more tidy, a lot of guys I know are tidy freaks, myself included).

I would say my male friends compared to female friends are significantly more clean then the females. And bathrooms... as a guy, I have clippers, toothbrush and paste and soap on my sink. I am yet to date a woman whose sink isn't covered in products, creams and powders spilled everywhere never cleaned up.
Men surely can be slobs, but women can too. I think it's just silly to assume a mess is a man's right away, PEOPLE can be slobs.
