I'd like to know the answer too. I'm married (not an arranged one, though), yet I've never been on something like a date. When I tried though, it was so cringe that rejection was in fact a relief.

When people talk about dating, they're talking about sex - wanting it, preparing for it, having it.

The object for men is to get to sex as soon as possible for as little time, effort, and expense as possible.

The object for women is to exchange sex for as much "value" as they can possibly extract from the man they're having sex with. For attractive men, "value"= attention and commitment. For all other men, "value"= resources, money, and commitment.

I would say dating apps are hyper-reality, that means they create an impression of a reality that is fabricated over a base reality, left long enough eventually the fabricated reality becomes the base and becomes the truth.

Example: twitter gives you the impression that everyone is a cunt ---> everyone now becomes a cunt for real.

Formal dates are less common than they used to be, with hookups, FWBs, some types of situationships, and so on having gained popularity. But yes, people still go on dates.

For me, the average "date" is: "Let's meet at a lowkey bar I like, talk for a while, then split the check. If the vibes are good, we'll go to a second, more highkey bar where we can dance and flirt and probably run into several of our friends before going home together."

After that, if the vibes are still good, you start inviting each other to cool things: bands you like, parties with people you like, art gallery openings, etc. You also start eating together occasionally, especially if one of you is cooking. If, after that, the vibes are still good, you basically just start hanging out all the time with no need to make official plans.

I'd say that's modern dating in a nutshell.

In a lot of places the formal dating that exists in the popular American conception is not real. People sort of hang out and then have sex and proceed from there, without ever arranging to meet alone or anything like that, especially not for dinner at a restaurant or coffee somewhere. But the sex should happen fast. First day is a good indication that she can ever really have a healthy romantic love based relationship with you. After a couple days those odds go down to pretty much 0.

Its now the same way in the US, despite the popular conceptions not catching up.

Yes, it is real, no it is not just about sex, it doesn't even have to be romantic in nature. It strictly speaking means a "social appointment".

There is a lot of discussion about romantic dating (from now on, when i say dating I mean the romantic one), cuz a lot of people do it, and it is an important aspect of the lives of many people. People want to be better at it, share their experiences. If you are good at it, you can make a very good impression socially.

It definitely is real, I've been dating multiple women at the same time. There are some key rules though and I truly believe it'll help you filter through the sluts that want your money.

Sex is pretty easy to get, on a night out you can see girls attraction when they look at you, it's easy to tell when to move in and then it's guaranteed pretty much.

Dating is different, you need to be harsh with how you conduct a date because you have to filter out women who are looking for a betabuxx. Any signs of this you must leave the date immediately, yes I mean physically get up and leave.
