I would start with whoever manages the 401k. Call them and ask what the average annual rate of return was from the day you were married to now. They should be able to do this for you and send a statement to that effect.

If you have the account value the day you were married and then applied the average annual rate of return, you could calculate the value of your protected portion. Simple PVFV formula.

If you subtract your protected portion from the actual present account value, the result would be the marital property portion.

It’s a simple math formula and works be nice if the ex could just agree to an amount, but mine can’t do basic math and insisted we pay a company like this. It’s still costing about $2K here.
