72k a year, after taxes is something like 100k/year taxed. That's substantially better than what most joint income families make in the United States. Most people can live and buy a place on that sort of income.

I think the disconnect here, OP, is that while many agree with you that half your income is exorbitant, that you appear as though you will land on your feet. For many of the dudes that find themselves in this situation, often through no fault of their own, they often find that they are struggling to keep a roof over their head, the lights on, and basic needs.

call me crazy, but if i was on the receiving end of 7500/month at a no-fault divorce, i think i would be at least appreciative of the vast amount of money. nope my ex wife doesn't think that way. hell no. apparently this is what is rightfully hers, what she is entitled to, for the "sacrifices" she made.. (spoiler alert: there wasn't much. it's just that you happened to marry someone with high earning capacity) good for her. FML

You're in a no-fault divorce? In California? Did the judge impute any income to her? Why is there a nanny, is she working? Your spousal support is not permanent, right? It's time-based?

I paid $8k a mo temporary support for 2.5 years and was constantly broke, with my final number being around 6k a mo and no nanny costs. My alimony/spousal of 4k a mo ended Dec '17 after paying it for 7 years. There is light at the end of the tunnel, it's just a rough journey.

I understand completely. We have had to take a step back and make adjustments with job changes and such... They will have to do the same... If the cash flow ain't there idc how he lived.... It will change

My husband pays 6125 per month in indefinite spousal support to his ex. Plus 7.25% of anything above 200K. She makes 50K per year from her salary and with alimony it totals 126K. All her kids are grown and out of the house. Crazy system we have. Luckily for him he met me... independent, financially secure, homeowner, and helping him. It is tough to think about the future...when he retires. He will have to file a modification and pray that the judge doesnt make him continue to pay that. Judges can do what they want. We are considering leaving the country in the future. No joke. Good luck.

I think you have a bad lawyer: A Nanny really? Does your STBX work? My take home after CS $1100 /SS $1600 is $3700. I make half as much as you. Spousal support ends in 1 year and kids are 14/8. I discovered some mistakes on the court spreadsheet.

My final decree was signed before the new Trump tax law so I deduct the alimony from my income. Now it is not deductible.

We have Joint Custody. I have son 70% of time, she has daughter 70% of the time. Split exemptions and file Head of Household (each).

I live in DC which is as bad as California as far as expenses go.

yes my income is high. but our lifestyle was always modest/ not that different from average, which meansafter adding my wife's very low paying job, majority of combined take home income went straight to savings. so i'm not one of those people who think $100 is nothing just because he makes a lot of money. 7500 is unbearably a lot of money to me. it's just totally unreasonable compared to the cost of raising a child or "compensation". What did my wife do that your wives didnt to deserve this insane support money? Absolutely nothing. Support payment (spousal & child) should taper off at some income levels, instead of going up LINEARLY. This is crazy.

Only guys who are transferring the same amount of money as i soon will be to a ungrateful & spiteful ex spouse would understand. Honestly I see a lot of "my support of 500-1000$ is killing me" and I understand that I will have more absolute dollar left over for myself than them, but I worked hard for my level of income, and it's one thing to send $500 to your ex-spouse, another thing to send $7500. I'd like to hear from guys in similar boat & get some support.

we havent agreed on the final numbers but she knows the ballpark

but she keep saying i am so disgusting because how i am so cheap on support numbers, how she will "struggle" to make ends meet. Please.

Gosh I cant wait until it's over. at least i will be free.
