I've been reading this sub for quite a while. I know all the advice, all the recommendations, all the encouragement that time will heal, that things will get better, that I will get through this. But man oh man, I'm not sure I believe it.

We were married for 17 years. Hell, we're still married currently. Three kids. We had just bought the house of our dreams, I was in my prime earning years and was banking it, we had plans for the future, I had made partner at my firm a couple of years ago, everything was looking aces.

She had a midlife crisis, a mental breakdown, something - I will never know what happened. We went from best friends to her leaving us without warning for three weeks. She said she was sure her leaving like that would "break me", or "bring me to my knees". She had been talking to others behind my back about taking the kids out of state and hiding them from me; before she left, she was telling the kids that I was crazy, that I had dementia (I do not and she is not a doctor), and that I would hurt them someday. She did this to drive a wedge between me and the kids so she could move them out of state and disappear on me. When she was gone she started looking for divorce attorneys. I filed for divorce while she was gone, because (1) I didn't want to come home every night and not know if my kids would be there; and (2) I didn't want to be married to someone who would do something like that. Even then, I tried to work it out with her.

When she got back, we only spoke about 3-4 times, despite her remaining on the property. She wanted nothing to do with the kids or with me, I was the only parent for about 8 months until she could turn it around on me. She got me kicked out, stole or sold everything, took the kids from me for a period of time, and now has a boyfriend. She's telling people he's the love of her life, she can't believe it took all these years for them to finally get together (they knew each other in high school), she's introduced them to my kids and told them they are in love, and the divorce isn't even finalized until next month.

As much as I hate this woman, I still love her (I am clearly a fool). I loved and miss my old life. But I will never get closure, and she is a closed book to me now - there is no way we could communicate on anything more than a hostile or, at best, a dispassionate, businesslike manner. She is done with me and has been for quite some time. She is way ahead of me as far as processing the loss and divorce. It kills me to know my life has basically been a lie - she didn't love me, she loved what I provided. She really loved someone else, even though we have three kids together. I loved her with every atom of my being. I don't know how to go on, and I'm not sure I want to. I got to the top of my little hill, only to have it snatched away from me. I'm 46 and have no desire to move on, to find happiness, to live. I've got 12 years before my youngest is 18 and that's all I'm really living for. After that, I'll probably punch my ticket.

I guess I just wanted to vent. Like I said, I've read the sub, I know the advice, and I don't disagree with it. Even so, I just don't know how to stop hurting, how to stop ruminating over the what-ifs, the what-could-have-beens, and my failures during the marriage. I don't know how to let her go, and I don't know how to deal with the hurt while she has moved on, fell in love, and is living her best life.

Thanks for stopping by my pity party.
