Started uncontested. After two years the judge became irate that the wife has not agreed to anything and scheduled a trial.

You will not win with an at-fault divorce unless she decides to give in. Family court caters to the lowest earner/highest spender which is historically the woman.

Not possible in my state and many others. WI is a No-fault marriage state.

Both parties have to go to a class about divorce and kids (if you have children)

An initial divorce appearance to start the divorce, quarterly progress hearings and if terms are already met before the last hearing you can get divorced in about 1 year.

It is crazy to me how much divorce varies from state to state. I've herd stories of divorce taking 6 weeks a d feel sorry for the poor bastards that it takes over 2 years.

Personally a year seemed like an eternity.

I'm super interested about contested divorce as well and if it really does help with the divorce settlement?

Arizona doesn't allow for a no-fault divorce unless the marriage is registered as a Covenant Marriage. Covenant marriages are harder to get into, and are ineligible for divorce unless the filing spouse can prove that the non-filing spouse cheated, is abusive or is addicted to drugs or alcohol and has formally refused counseling, or has abandoned the home for over a year.

Otherwise unless it's registered as a covenant marriage, there's no "at fault" divorce, period.

Contested divorce is different from at-fault. Contested is what you call it when the parties don't agree to the terms and it has to be arbitrated by a judge.
