Dinner conversation with the six year old

Mine asked this but it was actually him asking to have alone time with a parent. Since we both work, the kids are a bundle and never really get alone time. I try to make"dad days" every few months where I take one kid out of school for a day with Dad, then the other brother gets it the following week.

I feel you. It hurts so bad knowing we’d do absolutely anything for our kids, and my ex wife consistently puts herself first, and would do “anything” for our son as long as it’s convenient for her.

It doesn’t rip through them though. They’re often out searching for the next man as your/our kids hearts bleed out.

Took me a short while to realize this, but once I did the energy shifted into creating a world where my kids have the best opportunity of having a different outcome in life.

Which is why I preach to men going through having their families ripped apart to be patient with themselves and also give themselves grace as it is very difficult to see one’s kid suffer through this.

Can you imagine having a home, a backyard, your own room, playroom, neighborhood, friends, routines…. All to be upended overnight to crappy apartments, back and forth between homes, strange pretend parents etc. it’s a whole mess.

It’s hard with young ones. My 4 year old asked me the other day if Mom fired me. I laughed, cried a little and said Ya, basically. It’s how it understands it at his age. His mom wasn’t happy, but he asked, and I’m going to be honest, without complicating it for a 4 year old.

Certain things along this journey will hit our soul hard. It proves you at least care. Just try to stay strong for the babies, and focus on yourself and healing.
