My wife (31f) and I (35M) have been married for three years, together for six. We have certainly been through a lot together, and I do love her, but I feel like we rushed into our relationship and marriage, and a lot of it is my fault for my insecurities and unhealthy relationship I have with my parents.
My wife and I both suffer from. C-PTSD from our youth. We moved in together 2 months after we met. And I feel like I proposed to her largely due to a feeling of comfort in the dynamic we had going on at the time. Although I don’t feel like I was at my best at that time. I was incredibly out of shape due to the COVID lockdown and drinking too much.
I feel like as I started to get myself back in shape the magic started to fade and I just started getting frustrated with her lack of exercise. It has impacted sex to a degree, but my frustration is deepened by the fact that she doesn’t feel confident in having children with me.
While I understand her point of view as we do fight a lot and struggle with communication, it is also hard to accept as I have tried to be there for her through a lot of tough times. I can’t deny that she has supported me immensely as well with her cooking.
I feel like I’m just scared to end things because I do feel a level of codependency with her that makes the prospect of divorce terrifying… like my life would virtually be over…
Has any others struggled with codependency and have any insight on how to break it and make a rational decision?
