What kind of a man moves right in with a woman and her kid this soon. These aren't men, they are substitutes. Resources, emotiinal, and do its. Women are afraid, thats why they do this. Men with options don't want insta families. Read the predatory female, rev shannon. There's an entire class ofmen ready and willing to serve the m atriarchy. I.e. weak beta males. They can't land younger single women, or single woman. Your ex picked this guy bec he's easy, and controllable.

This guy has everything working against him with a single mother. In most cases a no win situation. You should pity him for failing to understand his low position in the hierarchy.

Run a background check on the guy. If he has any violent/sex criminal convictions then file for an emergency protection order then work on full custody.

If he is clean then continue to focus on dad's world. Your child only needs one stable household and parent to be fine, and you are in 100% control of that.

I’m in pretty much the same boat as you. Only difference is that our MDA prevents her from moving anyone in for 6 months, so she hasn’t moved him into our old house yet.

Do a background check on the guy. If there are no red flags, don’t sweat the guy or what he and your ex are doing unless your kids communicate concerns to you. Keep those lines of communication with your kids open, but don’t grill them on the guy.

Also, you used the word “combat.” Shift that mindset unless your kids are at risk. Even subconsciously thinking about the situation adversarially gives it space in your head that you don’t need.

At the minimum get a background check on the guy, 100% you have the right to know everyone who is around your kid for any appreciable time. Second, keep open lines of communication with your kid - you didn't mention age so it's hard to get specific - but basically, you don't want to interrogate them just have them tell you how they feel about the person and then be prepared with follow up questions that will serve to arm them against any problems. If he's relatively normal, good. Don't worry and if he doesn't get enamored with your kids, expect the kid to spend more and more time with you. I wouldn't go so far as to train your kid to be difficult around him, but anyway - you know what's best for your kid. 100% she'll choose that dude over your kid if he puts it to her that way.

You can't make up scenarios in your head about what can "possibly" happen. If anything regarding safety occurs then you can document it and proceed the legal route. You will now both live completely separate lives unless the children are adversely affected by safety which should be objective and not based in personal bias or feelings.
