We divorced in 2003 and as my youngest is about to turn 18, I sent her a casual email about how we can wrap up child support in the near future, a wind down is what I had in mind but was up for any suggestion. One week later I get a letter from her lawyer saying they want to go back 15 years to make sure I paid enough. I have been in my current job for over a decade, it’s a good job that I love. She has known about my income since then, I have given her tax records and now she is lying about receiving them (document everything people!). I have provided her with emails (I saved those at least) about us discussing and meeting to deliver these records. When she was fired from her job the kids went on my benefits, that was over ten years ago, even though she has had multiple insurance cards with my employer on it, she claims she had no idea where I worked (more lies). Basically, her income supplement for her cigarettes and yes, a home for our children, is going to end soon and she’s looking for a final payday. She was forced to give me her tax returns (she’s an abusive bully who would attack me physically if I stood my ground) so I know this really pissed her off, lol. I found out she has claimed surprisingly little money on her tax returns. She has her own business and to me it’s very clear she’s the one hiding money.

I just wanted to vent and remind everyone to make a dairy of all your interactions, keep bank records, emails and never ever do anything that can’t be documented and date stamped regardless of where you are in your process. Especially if you have kids, even if you think that thing isn’t very important and won’t be helpful in the future. I’ve had to go on a forensic study of my life in the last few months trying to remember events and pulling what records I could together, because my ex is an attention seeking narcissist and won’t let this end until she takes it to court. Stay diligent!
