Hello. I'm in a pretty miserable marriage that has sadly been piss poor almost from the start. Even more poor is that we've only been married 2.5 years. Talk about a short honeymoon bliss phase. I'm not saying divorce is a sure thing, but during big fights my wife has threatened the D word several times.

I honestly just think it's only smart to look into it and be prepared in case things can't get better/fixed. It's only smart to be knowledgeable and have a plan in place, especially at my age (we're both 28) where I have a lot of life left to live, for better or worse.

I'm hoping this is a place to post this and ask for tips and any advice from men of experience. I've already started a cash stash of a couple hundred bucks. What else should I be doing to prepare myself in case she throws papers my way one of these days? Do I really need to lawyer up at this point?

Other important info: We have no kids yet, though they've always been in the proposed plan. As of the last 6 months of increased tension, I've been careful/cautious about getting her knocked up at this point. I also live rurally and far from any "big shot" big city lawyer. I should also mention that one of my primary concerns is the financial hit. If I could get out of the marriage unscathed financially I would have ended it before our 1st anniversary. Even without kids. I may not be ridiculously cashy but have a lot tied up in assets through business.

I appreciate any and all comments.
