Yes. They do. If you come as person with love for your kid and clearly not lying it is apparent to everyone in the court.

Love your kid enough to do the hard thing and maybe she will heal in the program. Until then take care of yourself and your kid.

The court listened to my kid and the abuse mom did to her behind my back. Plus the ex had an extensive history of drug and alcohol abuse, all well documented. My daughter told her counselor what she wouldn’t tell me. Her counselor flipped and recommended an immediate restraining order and no contact. The ex went mental and threatened the counselor. My daughter asked for zero contact and mom isn’t allowed to contact her until she graduates HS. I was expecting years of forced torture on my kid, didn’t expect the court to listen at all. I didn’t ask for full custody, the judge ordered it.

I highly recommend counseling, I had no idea the impact it would have. And heavy documentation of anything you have. There was no DV in my situation, just a nightmare of a human masquerading as my now ex wife. She’s still convinced I hired some mega lawyer but I didn’t. The attorney simply presented everything to the court and here I am, single parent with a teenager who hates her mom. So yes, it can be done. Check yourself and let the ex dig her own hole. It wasn’t pleasant but sometimes you have to lose a few battles before you win the war.

My current judge took it seriously when my ex DV'd me in front of the kids. She's currently ordered to go to a rehab program. Judge is wants to give her a few chances to get her shit together for a 50/50 outcome. My judge also will take consideration of the kids over the desired 50/50.
