Hey all,

I am curious.. if I work, she does not (right now but has in the past), and we start the process (someone files).. and soon after I lose my job.. being in a really BAD job market right now and for the likely foreseeable future.. and even if I get a job, it looks like the salary's are going way the hell down, especially for any sort of remote work...

If we sell our home, and we each pocket 150K after all the other stuff. Would they still make me pay her alimony without a job because I have 150K in the bank? Or would I be able to put off until I got a job (mind you.. I am NOT a deadbeat asshole who wont work.. I def want a job.. in my late 50s now and I still have no retirement.. so I still plan on working till I cant to support myself).

I am just unsure of how the whole alimony crap works. Talking 20+ years in a 50/50 state. I have always made about 2x what she did, and I am in the 200K range, but she has always worked part time in the medical field and could make similar pay to me if she had worked full time. She however had some medical problems that had hindered her a little bit so she claims she can only work part time.. yet she can go on several vacations a year, drive/fly for long hours, etc.

I am aware of imputing her work/salary, probably have to do that. But I suspect with doctors notes/etc she'll somehow be able to claim she cant work full time (or at all).
