Thank you! There are many things that made me question the redpill and eventually abandon it altogether. But in short, it was because I realized that it’s more about manipulating women and being a misogynistic prick than about having healthy boundaries. Redpill defenders try to sell it as a gateway to restore male agency (often in the context of dating, though not always), and while there are some truths to what they say, their messaging encourages a culture of unwarranted resentment and contempt of women.

What really did me in were my left wing politics. Have been left wing for a long time and couldn't help but notice that all these red pill content creators I was listening to were always right wing/libertarian. That made me question whether this was one of those instances where the broken clock was right on this occasion and wonder why no left wing creator had picked up on the red pill "science".

What broke the camel's back was listening to a history podcast that I had been listening for years; an episode called: Sex in Ancient Rome. This episode discussed how the same red pill talking points I was already familiar with were also conveniently used by the ruling elite throughout history to explain the collapse and deterioration of society rather than the real culprit: the ruling elite.

No different than today's right wing billionaire propaganda blaming feminism, women, trans people and immigrants for the collapse of the empire. No war but class war.

After that episode opened my eyes and feeling like a complete fool, I started looking specifically for content that would debunk the red pill ideology. Hindsight made me realize that being red pilled also makes you a miserable person. It made me look at my female family members and my own mother in a different light.

So glad I got out of that BS. I'm a much more happy and less resentful person and keep making strides to deprogram internalized patriarchal/misogynistic values and its remnants. I feel much better now :)

Because I think redpill/sexism towards anyone is, for lack of a better word, the "easiest way out". It requires little critical thinking to hold hatred for another group of people. It is low hanging fruit easy. Especially if hatred of the group opposite from yours makes YOU feel superior

What made me question it? Several.

1.) The fact that almost every other red pilled man didn't seem to actually do much other than complain about women 24/7. It's one thing to advise men to go chase personal happiness after heart break and loss, it's a completely nother thing when the content creators themselves don't seem to do much other than talk shit about women.

2.) The fact that red pill content creators start off by giving men when they feel heartbroken or at their worst validation that they otherwise wouldn't get, via, false "brotherhood". Related to point one, because, these content creators don't otherwise seem to be bettering themselves except by financially exploiting men when they're feeling vulnerable, which is the same thing they accuse women of doing.

3.) The fact that red pill content creators often attempt to incept racist, far right politics IN with their content, and being obvious about it. The first two, I noticed at first, but didn't much thought into them, but this was the one that actually made me start "waking up" from red pill philosophy, especially as a POC

4.) The fact that I truly and deeply love women, that I was simply feeling bitter and hurt after a bad on and off long term relationship, and that I'm not even politically right wing to begin with. Once I noticed number three, I started seeing the content go even more unhinged, for example, red pill content creators throwing around the idea of "taking ALL women's rights away, even if SOME do harmful things to men". I'm a firm believer in the idea of NOT "punishing the innocent majority because of a small minority".

4.) Actually going out, genuinely making connections with women, and pursuing my own happiness, instead of sitting at home, not touching grass and being miserable about it. It was also in these moments that it dwelled on me that these same content creators are pathetic fucking losers who didn't know how to even talk to women, and probably were bitter that they couldn't get laid.

The only real benefits of red pill content are understanding that women are individuals and thus, could be just as shitty and manipulative as men could be; To stop depending on sex for validation; To go do things you personally enjoy and find self fulfillment when you are down. That's it.

I simply grew out of it, after a while, I stopped watching. I just focused on bigger stuff in my personal life. It is it simple that the reason I stop following the red pill bs. Don't be wrong, I am still learning what is my side of the politics, but my thoughts are right-wing and little left wing in the social themes, but a little.

The evolutionary psychology is dumb. Also, I’ve seen their high ranking members break their own rules and think their situation is somehow the exception to the rule. If they can think that, then I can too whenever I find a girl who is quality.

I recognized I just need healthy boundaries and need to take care of myself to attract women. That's it. I was so caught up in pretending I was some kind of confident playboy that I missed the part where I actually fixed the things that weren't helping me grow my self confidence and self respect. I realized I have too much empathy and have too much self awareness of what I'm doing to myself and other people to keep pretending to be someone I'm not and to hurt myself and other people in the process.

Needless to say, I'm in a happy, healthy relationship with someone I actually care to be with and have a healthy sex life. Everything I really needed was on the other side of the red pill community. I don't regret anything because I learned a lot about myself and relationship dynamics. It gave me perspective and half decent advice (at the time red pill community was more about self improvement than it was about being misogynistic) which ultimately helped me become a confident man.

Obviously it wasn't an ideology I 100% agreed on even from day one, but ultimately, I think it was because I had realized how sad the lives of all these men were who slept with all these women and still slept in a bed alone. What really did it was my roommate in college who I saw was deep in that ideology. I've never seen a man cry over a woman so much, yet hate them and say things like "if I wanted to fuck a girl right now I could". Yeah, so could I, but I wouldn't be happy. That was the difference. Much like some of the people in this comment section, I also noted that the people running the subreddit were devoid of any redeeming qualities.

I was initially drawn in by the self-improvement angle after my first heartbreak (e.g. go to the gym, improve your game, start cold-approaching). But over the years the space became something else entirely.

The research actually maps this shift well. Singlehood is a predictor of poor mental health, particularly among men, and is associated with increased misogynistic attitudes. That psychological vulnerability has fuelled the growth of the manosphere, which has evolved from relatively benign origins in pick-up artistry and men's rights activism towards more extreme subsets like inceldom and Men Going Their Own Way. These communities actively reinforce singlehood as an identity, which perpetuates the cycle. I was a small data point in that pattern: channelling frustration about my dating life into content that was making my worldview worse, not better.

Fresh & Fit was the clearest example for me. The format presents itself as dating advice and male empowerment, but the throughline is contempt for women, particularly successful or independent ones. Once you see it framed that way, it's hard to unsee across the broader space.

The intellectual dishonesty eventually pushed me out too. I'll admit I was one of those guys reading Rollo Tomassi's The Rational Male and The Way of the Superior Man over ten years ago. The Rational Male in particular presents itself as grounded in evolutionary psychology but routinely cherrypicks research to support conclusions the studies don't actually demonstrate. That pattern runs through the whole space. The treatment of educated women is a good example: the Kevin Samuels "I'm a PhD" meme framed female achievement as a dating liability. The data says the opposite. Highly educated women are more likely to be married and tend to pair with equally successful men. The rhetoric about men preferring younger women doesn't hold up either: the wealthier a man is, the less likely he is to marry someone significantly younger.

This journey has ignited a fascination with behavioural science, and evolutionary psychology specifically. I know it's a contested field, and I understand why, but I think it offers genuine tools for understanding mate preferences and sexual selection without needing to retrofit the evidence to a grievance narrative. I'm starting a PhD in October supervised by an evolutionary psychologist who conducted the largest empirical study on incels to date.
