Bro what is it with dudes that have misogynistic and nationalistic attitudes that they are so damned natalist and think their genes desperately need spreading? If a woman wants your genes they will come and let you know basically, and you cannot force women to select you. But just so you know talking about birthrates makes women's external reproductive anatomy become internal it is that disgusting to us. Women don't want to be brood mares. We generally DO want kids and to raise a family with someone of the opposite sex but we want to do it on humane terms. This is the first time in history in many regions that has ever been possible and birth rates will naturally reduce. This is a reflection that basically women in the past didn't want lots of kids either, they didn't have a choice. Women had kids until their uterus's literally fell out of their vaginas. They had like 5 living kids and 7 miscarriages or babies who died early. They ruined their bodies and their minds doing this and meanwhile their husband went around staring at young girls and demeaning their wife for being fat and ugly after the sacrifice she made to provide him with sons. Women did not enjoy that, most people these days think it is wrong even to breed DOGS like that! The human population is becoming unsustainable and maintaining replacement birthrate is going to destroy our environment and doom our species. So really it is better that we follow the wisdom of women on this one.

Anything could happen. At the end of the day governments do what they can to maintain order and benefit the rich. They may raise taxes, or they may simply reduce the benefits and rights we fought for in the last century. No pensions, no public education, no public healthcare. Oh I'm sure they'll call it "public" but it will be in name only.

Our best method to fight back is to use the methods we used before. Community organising and labour organising. Look into it.

No one knows the end results of a population producing less people. The trend could change at any point once the numbers start dropping.

None of us will be around to really see these things anyway.

Our generation is experience a dramatic shift in lifestyle but that will probably be the main thing we see. The next generation or two will be living your question.

Less and less people (both men and women) are having kids. Why? Because they don't want to. Why don't people want kids? Because of the economy, political turmoil, climate change, prices of housing/Healthcare/childcare/cars/everything else important has skyrocketed, mental health awareness, and so on.

We don't need more people on this planet, it's not sustainable. It's been a steep uphill battle trying to switch over to renewable energy/resources. Automation has been replacing jobs and will continue to do so.

Not to mention, thanks to the internet and being able to share endless information means that more young people are aware of the territory that comes with marriage, pregnancy, and raising children. More people waking up to the fact that parenthood can suck is a good thing. Many people shouldn't be parents, and it is good when someone realizes it.

Feminism and birth control aren't the reasons. Feminism is an ideology, and one does not need to be a feminist to decide parenthood isn't for them. Birth control is simply a tool to avoid parenthood.

I am always so torn about this kind of question.

So my husband and I do very well financially...and we can cut back on working hours to raise a child. We were talking about vasectomy and stuffs instead.

First of all, you are not racist or hateful to wonder about the future of your race (I am Asian, not only we talk about future as a race...we actually talk about future of our sub-race(?)/ethnicity. As for example, from where I come from, Singapore-Indian, Singa-Malay, Singa-Chinese, etc will all be caring about their own ethnic group...eventhough all of us are Asian. And yes, we are all under that human as a race umbrella, but reality on the street is not like on tumblr. Anyway....)

In that corner of the world, it used to be (and in some are still), that children are being created to be a direct future retirement plans for the family. The more there are children, the more secure the retirement will be. In the West the children will be future tax payers who will secure well...our retirement. Or we hoped so.

Now it is a moral question for me... Is it ethical to combine egg and sperm, to create something so sentient...and assigning job to the in the first place? No matter if it is just to continue DNA or family name, to be retirement plans, or perhaps be future scientists and engineers... We are still being egoistical by just the act of creating a child...right?
