Why I left the mgtow movement

I don't see anything wrong with "going your own way" if dating isn't fulfilling for you, but MGTOW really don't go their own way. Instead they whine and complain nonstop about women and focus way too much on women.

I spent some time "going my own way" for 2 years in between serious relationships and just traveled, built my career, learned to love myself, and worked out. I became a much more attractive and interesting partner afterwards and found my now wife.

I'm a former MGTOW and noticed some extremely concerning issues with MGTOW, this made me abandon the label. This is not an exhaustive list....just some that immediately came to mind.

An obsession with a supposedly upcoming civilizational collapse brought about by women being reluctant to marry and have children. A wish to see it all burn.
Virulent unopposed racism, by the time I left for many posts on the r/MGTOW, were openly glorifying Adolf Hitler and the Nazi's.
Hatred and disdain towards women, often based on demonstrably unscientific ideas, for example, that women who have multiple sexual partners are unable to be part of fulfilling relationships with men.
A desire to strip women of rights (for example to right to vote and the right to divorce), often based on a belief that men ought to be in charge and make ALL important decisions at both the interpersonal and societal levels. I have interacted with thousands of men and women in my lifetime and the vast majority are completely unsuited to complex decision making, most people run on autopilot, men included.
I have known many MGTOW personally IRL, whom I met online. With the exception of perhaps five, their lives were a COMPLETE mess, many failed to hold down regular jobs and could not muster the will power to climb the societal ladder but expressed a wish to have women subservient to them, a few had criminal records, most were socially awkward and some I suspect were actually insane (one guy made Daily Mail and The Sun newspaper clippings). The said five whose lives were in order and seemed to be actually enjoying their lives instead of complaining online, quickly abandoned the online community and focused on living complete lives, they had friends, partners, and hobbies, they simply were not interested in marriage, good on them, I'm still close with most of these guys.
The unrelenting trolling, this is not specific to MGTOW, however, in my personal experience people who are happy in their lives, do not typically resort to trolling, they get on with their lives.

The wall makes me giggle every time I hear it. I saw a study where they showed men pictures of women without saying their ages, and had them rate the women on attractiveness. The peak age of female attractiveness according to that study was 32. Not 25, not 18, and definitely not 13 like the pedos in the manosphere keep trying to get us to believe. I am 38, average looks, and people often think I'm 25.

Whenever I see them glorifying teenagers I'm like, have you met a teenager? They won't even let teenagers play themselves on TV, all those teen shows have 25 year olds playing high school students, because the 25 year olds are more attractive.

Most incels are teenagers themselves so it makes sense they'd be attracted to other kids. That usually changes as you get older though.

I have never seen anything good come from mgtow, I mean a man that was honourable, that ok has his own intentions of going his own way but not being a dick about it.

Going your own way should exactly be that, but it doesn’t need to include tearing down everyone else you know in the process.

MGTOW is 10% good, self help advice for men who need to get their shit together and 90% cringy butthurt woman hating fueled by their misfortune with the opposite sex. If guys want to grow old and not have a family or kids, be my guest. I have a girlfriend and am very happy.

Sadly, most of today's MGTOW "men" are just soy boys who are little different from Incels.

It's one thing if a guy has a bad experience in relationships and decides to live his own life. It's one thing if a guy is happier alone than he would be in a marriage. These are things I can respect. But if you visit any MGTOW sub or forum, the content will be 90% complaining about women, or about how feminism has ruined their lives by giving women the option of marrying some other dude.

I would have thought that a guy who was actually, you know, "Going his own way" wouldn't be worried by this stuff. Surely that man has hobbies to pursue, a career to work on, skills to learn, foreign countries to visit and so on. I suspect that's what happened to a lot of the more moderate MGTOW guys who were around back in the day. There was an article floating around a little while ago explaining that a lot of these groups (including MGTOW) were becoming more radical as the older guys move on and the newer guys who's only "experience" in relationships is what they read on toxic Internet boards.

What's left is a bunch of Incel soy-boys who think MGTOW is somehow "edgy" or "cool".

There are reasons for the things you mentioned. Their revenge fantasy of women hitting the wall didn't just drop out of the sky. There are women who are born really pretty and fuckable, and they have sex, attention, and lots of other things handed to them on a silver plate while there are guys who were born into underpriviledged circumstances including their subpar height or facial aesthetics, and they were treated and made to feel a certain way because of it. Neither the girl nor the guy had any power in choosing their fate, yet their lives are drastically affected. Is it really that hard to understand why such guys would be happy when such girls lose their looks, or in other words, advantages and priviledges and sources of joy and power that the guy never had in the first place? Or you consider yourself so much better than them, that if you had been born into that position you wouldn't feel that way?

Their hatred for single mothers is similar although not entirely the same. People, regardless of gender, hate feeling like they are being taken advantage of. Single mothers do, sometimes, consciously look for a man who is easier to land but is safe and secure and can provide. Nothing wrong with it as long as it's out in the open, but a lot of guys don't want to feel safe and secure, they want to feel rough and dangerous. Single mothers, to them, represent being taken advantage of. Also, undoubtedly, when a girl has a child, her market value decreases. You don't need to be a dick about it and bully her for this, but objectively speaking, her dating options have gone down. Some men on MGTOW/Red pill forums are happy to see such an event taking place and want to kick her to make themselves feel better.

And some of the things they point out, do make sense. The legal system is, in fact, biased towards women; society in general does, in fact, refuse to accept the Negative Feminine, consequently rendering young boys to be burned very badly by narcissistic and antisocial girls, which can traumatize them for life. Some of the men there are there to begin with because they had narcissistic mothers, and have no healthy image of a secure relationship.

Feminists celebrate male misfortunes the same way, for the same reason, they can be traumatized as well. Congratulations for leaving MGTOW, and listening to your heart that there was something wrong with it, but don't think you're better than them.

I will never know why my ex started dating me with the views he held. I was very definitely “post wall” when he met me, apparently enjoyed my company meanwhile declaring to the community that I was probably infertile and nothing serious would come of us. Yet he was the one who initiated discussions of having children and took me to a view of a serious relationship that would overcome obstacles.

I’m not sure if he was trolling me all along.

i left because the mods are lame af, and dont allow for any critical thought, and will ban you for posting on PPD lol. they (the mods) probably have really small pee pees IRL. poor guys
