True, I made the mistake of originally suppressing my needs in order to make my ex like me. And I guess it worked at the expense of making me miserable. Then after I couldn’t take it anymore, I fought with him every week until he didn’t like me anymore because I wasn’t low maintenance anymore. All in all, I really just wasted my time to make some shitty guy “love” me.

I dont even take gold digger as an insult anymore tbh. They just put that label on every woman who has even the most basic expectations for financial stability. Apparently we are even gold diggers for expecting men to be financially responsible and not leech off of us.

This is exactly right. LVM/NVM that are personally offended by your standards know that they don't meet them, so they will do anything to try to get you to lower them, and then think less of you if you do. Keep those standards firm!

It's not so much money that I like about a man, receiving flowers or something small and thoughtful once in a while is something that I like from time to time. I do things like that for the person I love, and I don't think it makes me a gold digger to want those types of things reciprocated.

Also, there is nothing wrong with wanting to be with a man who is similar to you in terms of education level, finances, etc. I'm so tired of this gold digger mentality. I have dated men before who couldn't afford to take me out all the time because I liked who they were. But at some point I realized that I've worked to earn money and I like being with someone who does that as well and doesn't expect for either of us to be the only person putting money into a relationship.

Yes! Once you start giving up your wants/needs it's a slippery slope. I'd rather stay single for the rest of my life than force myself to be with someone that is just not for me. I gave too many chances in the past to men who were just not up to my desired standard and nothing good ever came out of it.
