As a former pick-me undergoing rehabilitation, I started writing down a list of the qualities that define my baseline standards for any romantic relationship in the future. As I've been writing it, I've been realizing that a lot of those standards should apply to my friendships as well.

I'm realizing I have had next to no standards or boundaries for friendships. This has resulted in having my standards pushed lower and lower until I would literally become ill or feel constantly anxious around certain friends. I had always wondered why I had so many past toxic friendships that would "blow up" suddenly, or would end with them breadcrumbing me until I stopped contacting them. It's a bit humbling to realize that a lot of that was caused by me not having standards about who I choose to keep as friends and zero boundaries about what I would allow within those friendships.

Has anyone else had this realization while applying new standards to your romantic relationships?
