Armed and dangerous?

I’ve been looking into getting a concealed carry for years but it’s nearly impossible to get a license where I live. As soon as I get my own place I’m getting a firearm for sure. Right now I live with my brother so it’s not necessary. Mace will have to do until then.

I also carry a switchblade if I’m hiking and a hatchet in backwoods/wilderness situations. The switchblade lives in my car when I’m not carrying it.

I carry mace with me that is attached to my key chain. Thankfully haven’t had to use it, but I prefer not to leave home with out it. I also carry a knife most of the time in my purse/backpack/pocket (which I also haven’t used).

You can use anything as a kubotan. I usually carry Peper spray and a knife (makes me feel safer) + a kubotan pen thingy

I usually have a couple of knives on me when I'm out by myself... honestly it's just habit...these days I'm too injured to properly defend myself with knives unfortunately. And the older I get the more cautious I get about fight vs. flight.

I've got my concealed carry and a guns I'm comfortable with and practiced enough to actually carry and use properly but for most of my life I've only had a firearm with me if I'm on a solo trip out of town. I don't feel it's necessary to carry one in my home city.

Even though I'm skilled in martial arts and was a little bit of a badass before my physical issues kicked in I always did more prevention than aggression.

I have an app on my phone that will instantly dial 911, I don't use parking garages at night, I check my car before I get in it at night, I don't use atms at night and try to keep myself in well lit public spaces after dark. I don't get tipsy unless I'm with friends and have safe people around. I don't let strangers buy me drinks, I don't leave an unfinished drink at my table if I'm out dancing. I used to check in with my Besties before a date when I was still dating and give them the location I was going to, the dude's name and a time I should be checking in with them as in "if I haven't texted you by midnight I'm in trouble call the cops"

I still feel like caution is the better option... even after many years of training, honing my skills and beating up guys twice my size in tournaments and practices.

At tournaments and practices there's rules and referees and there's always a bunch of other people who will help STOP the fight if it gets out of hand. That's not the same as real life when you're alone and some asshole wants a piece of you.

Could I defend myself from a serious attack if need be.... yes....

Do I think it's better to disable an attacker and run for help, or better yet not even put myself in situations where I could be attacked... MORE yes!

**EDIT .... it wasn't a date but my last serious incident was after a night of dancing. I'd walked two blocks to a convenience store near the club to get snacks before going home and was walking back to my car, and a crazy dude started following me, catcalling me, then rushed at me.... I threw my wallet at him and ran to a restaurant across the street that was open while hitting my phone's panic button. When the cops got the asshole he turned out to be on meth. If I'd stood my ground to fight I could have gotten seriously hurt as the effect of drugs would have let him ignore any stabs or slices I would have given him.

In my experience, the most valuable defenses you can bring with you on a date are your awareness and your willingness to be “rude”. Those weapons in your bag across the room will not help you—and, if you’re in close quarters, they might even be turned on you.

Lots of creeps are counting on catching you off guard, so you freeze. If you can leave, leave. If you can’t leave, talk your way out. Training up your reflexes to flee without confrontation is a must, before you think about bringing a weapon with you.

That said, I keep a mini umbrella on me. Very versatile and discreet.

I have a knife in my drawer next to my bed and I always purposely sit on that side when with a guest. I also take it with me when I’m going out on a date (pre-covid) and I have dog mace on my keys. I want to go to the gun range someday soon and start legally carrying. I hope I will never have to stab someone or spray them tf up, but I’m 10000% ready if I have to.
