Fantastic list, thank you for sharing! I had taken to heart since I was a teenager that I was the connecting factor in my abuse, that I was bringing it on myself and was defective, etc, which was confirmed over and over by family members and abusers. I spent years doing cognitive behavioral therapy, trying medications, considering maybe I have various disorders, on and on. So much guilt, and in turn I thought I deserved more abuse from LVM. Turns out it’s all CPTSD.

I think for many women who are abused or attracted to narcissists, it starts in childhood, and we want so much not to see it because we love our abusers, especially when they’re family, and we want to get along. It’s easier to blame ourselves and not “lose” people when we want so much to be loved.

We have to learn the skills to deal with it and remove ourselves from abusive situations. “Pickmeism” is IMO a societally (& family) enforced coping mechanism to gender based trauma. It’s not an inherent flaw, but it does have to be dealt with to keep us and other women and girls safe. Learning about CPTSD is making a huge difference for me in conjunction with FDS.

I’ll add Atomic Habits to this list because it also teaches you to undo bad habits through a simple framework.

Very useful for women who might be tempted to message back a sassy response to a LVM, or unblock the ex.

I liked He’s Just Not That Into You! I’m in a relationship but I read it after I saw the recommendation on the discord and it was actually pretty eye opening because it’s information about social cues that can be applied outside of romantic relationships
