My standard is the man must have an actual career, not just a “job” —especially not an entry level job. I want to write my own version of this for myself now! Good to have a written reminder to follow.

Yea I agree. I had an ex who apparently had two trades behind him (high paying trades at that), and didn’t work in either of them. Yet worked an unskilled entry level job, on minimum wage. Sure his apparent trades would’ve come in handy, but he would have earned 2-3 times more and been under less pressure in his actual trades...

A guy I’m dating now has a trade, he’s done it for 15 years so is over it, but he still works in it and is also upskilling in another trade now for variety because he got the opportunity with a friends business. I admire that more.

I have two degrees, and don’t love my career now but I have worked to get to a decent level and usually earn a good wage (I’m unemployed at the moment due to covid). However I’ve also worked my butt off getting a certificate and some entry level experience in that area with a crappy family business, but I can eventually (hopefully soon) leverage off that to get a job in that area. My pay will dramatically drop and may be commission only to start, but I know in a couple of years I’ll be earning more than I would in my career now.

Sometimes you have to take the risk and pay cut, as do men, but if they aren’t showing signs of trying to get out or upskill if they hate their job, then In future I’m running for the hills.
