People use that for everything, "if you did (insert here whatever thing that only benefits them) you wouldn't be depressed", they don't actually care about you, they just want to insult and control you using something they see as "weakness".

What a narcissist! Good riddance, I say. You know, the ONLY person who thought that I was negative was my narc ex. He went so far as to nickname me "Eyore" and every present that I got from him was Eyore-related. My friends were shocked, I am literally the happiest most positive person that they know and I laugh all of the time. He was shutting me down, he was dimming my light. He also couldn't handle normal human emotions, so of course he thought I was clinical when I was ever sad or expressed disapproval of any kind 🙄

All of his "advice" is essentially just telling you not to stand up for what you think is right 😂

Of course he would have been more comfortable if you didn't call him out. He would have wanted so much that you relented and doubted yourself or undermined your argument in whatever discussions you two had instead of saying "no, I know I am right".
