One thing I want to say is that doing your best is all you can do. Being disillusioned can make you start to doubt your ability to change things. But keep doing your best.

I'm glad this patient has you. She knows that not all medical professionals will dismiss her and her situation. I really hope there is a way for her to get housing and be away from her home life because that's toxic.

And again, thank you so much for trying to help her.

In understand your frustration. Sometimes it's like the world doesn't care and we are lucky we can advocate for ourselves, because otherwise we'd be in a similar situation. That is how I see it. We could all be her and we are just lucky we are not.

I wish people understood that, but the "system" is so compartmentalized and setup in a way that discourages departments from working together on issues.

I face similar siutations at my job. But in here the worst thing that could happen is unhappy customers. No one's life is on the line.

It's good what you're doing. Remember to take care of yourself too. You can't help anyone if you burn out.

Sis offers a big hug. I live in the UK and have a disabled mother. I'm her carer and I've had to deal with the fuckery that is the system so I know your frustration well. I think British bureaucracy is (most of the time) cold, clinical and lacking in understanding, empathy and common sense. Everything is weighed against a checklist: your entire life boils down to whether you meet certain arbitrary criteria and these determine whether you can get help. It's not a humane system. It's system designed to discourage you from seeking help, lest you become a burden on the welfare state that the Conservative government have so gutted of funding.

If you're an empathic and caring person, dealing with such a soulless organisation/ structure can be draining and disillusioning at the best of times.

I'm sorry you had to go through that💜 keep on fighting the good fight and thank you for advocating on behalf of that woman ✊🏼

Students with disabilities in the UK CAN claim benefits (this can inc housing benefit). Not many people realise this.

The patient would also likely be able to claim a disabled student grant/allowance from the uni.

Btw you sound like a compassionate and caring nurse! Wish there were more like you.

I just wanted to say thank you for all that you do to support those who need it most, I cannot imagine how hard your job is even without having to deal with the broken systems in the uk. Only once have I seen the benefit/housing system deal well with someone who desperately needed the help and she is still not really getting the support she needs. Without people like you who knows what would happen to the vulnerable.

Yeah I don’t know what to say other than that you’re amazing for doing what you’re doing. It makes me angry that the resources aren’t often there or are made so difficult to locate in the first place (hey there Tory government).

If we think of all the other things women have to put up with, it’s just unnecessarily adding to the distress.
