My boyfriend’s nicotine addiction has bothered me for a while. I was ok with it until I found out that he not only uses vapes but does smoke cigarettes. Both are damaging for your health but at the very least one smells like fruits. I established early on in our relationship that I’d like him to overcome his addiction and stop or I’d move on.

He called me the other night to admit he feels not worthy of me and wants to be better for both himself and I. He’s starting his road to quitting immediately so he’ll be done with hitting any sort of vape by the time I return from a trip to my parent’s house. I told him he should wait until the weekend because he still has work and it’s finals week at our university. Nicotine withdrawals put him in an unpleasant mood from what he has said and I don’t think it’s smart of him to have withdrawals under the stress. He refused because he wants to be done with nicotine when I get back and if he waits a few more days he could still be suffering from them.

I’ve spent my entire dating life always changing and trying to be worthy of some abusive LVM and I’ve lost my teenage years at the feet of them. To finally have a guy work hard to meet my expectations, no matter how challenging it will be, is so unbelievably amazing.

He’s been improving himself since we started going out but this is the first serious lifestyle change that he’s doing. I know addiction is difficult and not easy to overcome. Being able to make a difference in his life without actively doing anything is wonderful.
