Just saw this on Facebook and there were so many pickme comments underneath it, about ladies who started out with losers that are supposedly the “best guys” now. Literally one lady bragging about how she ignored all five of these when she got with her husband and it turned out for the best.

Man, I knew all this three years ago and I'm still mad I wasted time ruminating what to do. I could've made a decision in two weeks or under, instead of dragging it out two months plus, and it's not much consolation to understand I got off easy, knowing others have lost years on relationshits.

My problem now is, every time I read relationship advice, or anecdotes that hit too close to home, I trigger myself again thinking about the ex I nearly agreed to marry. I'm trying to forgive myself for all that spent energy, but it's hard when I won't stop wasting even more fuming to myself long after I dropped him. I catch myself mentally muttering about everything that aligns with what I'm reading (e.g. His apologies? Useless. I straight up told him I wanted him to acknowledge the deed and not do it again and we could move forward. Potential? He was nothing but potential. What a shame he hit the wall... Flags? If I wouldn't accept this behavior from randos why should I accept it from someone who grew up somewhere else? So on and so forth...) and then it's such an effort to pull out of this angry headspace.

I didn't even love him so why do I exert so much, ragging on him over and over again? He lives rent-free in my head and I need to learn how to evict. Not just him but also people I considered friends. One former friend in particular, I'd get triggered with every reminder of the numerous chances I've given only to be proven right about my suspicions. It's like an open wound I didn't treat properly so now it just festers, with every accidental bump an ouch until I let it heal. Probably I need to cut down on reddit consumption but. I just got back! I can't look away! Some of these headlines promise trainwrecks and I'm only human, ha.
