Same with my ex. All of his jokes are hurtful They're never actually based on any comedic formula... or timing. Sometimes, yes, he has a good one.
But its like a kid who learned that by being funny they got a good reaction from people and now they're so addicted to getting that reaction they just can't stop and they're reaching for anything they can to make a joke
Except now they've learned that they can say hurtful things in a joking Manner and get away with it.
So instead of looking for validation in a healthy way and trying to be like funny and keep the peace they're inciting drama and insecurities in people. (For control/power)
It's like any attention is good attention even when it's bad
