I hope this misguided young girl grows and matures with time to understand eventually how harmful this industry actually is. I don’t think victims of sex work deserve to be arrested or criminalized as I would like for them to get help escaping abuse. The buyers (mostly male abusers) NEED to be criminalized, arrested, and shamed if we want to fight this exploitation though. Prostitution should never be glamorized.

I’m no longer a libfem, but I’m also not a conservative republican either. I just don’t like misogyny disguised as empowerment.

There’s little room for in between. My reasoning for being against prostitution is 1000% different from the reasoning of republicans. I actually care about and support women.

I would like to preface by saying pre-teens and 13-17 year olds are something else, they’re in the age where they start developing their own opinions without actually having experience thus the know-it-all attitude. I don’t believe her story 100%; suddenly convinced her professor, who was totally against sex work, into being completely pro sex work? Maybe she could have shifted her opinion slightly, but not completely. In the first place, I’ve never had a professor grade my paper based on whether or not they agreed with me or like my opinion on a topic; my papers were graded solely on sources, grammar and how well I tied research with sources plus topic. Ngl, I’ve decided from now I’m not giving my daughter access to social media young bc of all this toxic bullshit. I monitor what she watches on tv like a hawk. My mom is dealing with this issue with my sister and it’s not pretty y’all.

It really is just a line between allowing adult women with agency and an educated understanding to make the choices they want and perpetuating a harmful system that objectifies women and allows for evil to be done. A few people engage in sex work because they enjoy their job (and that has its own additional arguments as to maybe why etc) but the majority need the money etc and are pushed into pursuing it since women are often led to believe from a young age that their bodies inherently have more value than their heads.
