I just got dumped by someone I loved.  Shout out to all of you on this sub and to the handbook.  It felt like I had prepped for the breakup conversation even though it caught me by surprise.  He seemed nonplussed that I wasn’t demanding explanations, arguing with him, or begging him to stay.  I just let him collect his things, walked him out, and wished him well as succinctly as I could.  Thank you, next.

It was debilitating at first.  I took a couple weeks to process it, and now I’m ready to turn this breakup into a blessing.  I’ve set a few goals for myself for the next 30 days to start getting my life back to where I want it to be before I date again.  I’ve chosen goals that have a set due date, are measurable, are attainable, are (combined) hard enough that I’ll feel proud when I accomplish them all, and can be the beginnings of long-term lifestyle and behavioral improvements.

  • Hanging out with someone I love in person or virtually three times every week
  • Only using the internet for specified and worthwhile purposes. No more aimlessly scrolling if I’m bored for hours.
  • Volunteering 1hr/week.  I used a volunteering match website to find opportunities that matched my skills and passions.
  • Joining a gym and going to a female-friendly fitness class every wee
  • Going to a therapy appointment (First timer. Oddly nervous about this goal, but I have an appointment scheduled)
  • Booking a trip (accomplished today!)
  • Buying new bedding that sparks joy
  • Donating or throwing out 10 items in my closet
  • Updating my LinkedIn profile and applying to an enviable position
  • Reading a book (I have one chosen!)
  • Never reaching out to my ex.  I have a deal with a friend that if ever I’m itching to do so, I’ll text her instead.
  • Repotting a very large, overgrown plant (bought the pot!)

I miss feeling like a part of a team, so I’d love any encouragement and to discuss your post breakup goals and glow-up stories.
