I feel sorry for these women, they're really screwed by the media/society/whatever.

I'm not a fan of public proposals in general. You need to give your partner an opportunity to say "no" too.

Really? DO you in fact know that? How about if you're a feminist and if it made you cringe, it probably means it's not wrong to feel that way.

Anyway, I wish future enlightenment and IQ points for every Pickmeisha and Clownessa who felt the need to embarrass herself in front of the world that day.

In general, these public proposals coming from either gender are not a good idea. Don't put people on the spot like that.
