True story: I worked at GameStop and an assistant manager did this. To SEVERAL women. Store manager didn’t know (none of us did) until the fiancé of a woman he was texting came in with the texts asking what the hell.

He was promptly fired but I am shocked this is apparently a common problem at GameStop!

Also I was stalked by a few customers like calling the store and storming in asking why I didn’t talk to them - like a line out the door busy and a grown man in a naruto headband comes into the cash wrap to yell at me for not giving him my actual cell#.

Those were my prime pick me days. Sigh.

Unfortunately (though not surprisingly) this isn’t limited to GameStop or the video game industry. Back when I used to work in restaurants, I had managers who did this at all three places I worked at. No action was taken against any of them despite two having several substantiated complaints against them.

I worked at GameStop and my male manager admitted the only reason he hired me was because he needed more women working in the store and not for equality reasons.🤮

I worked at GameStop starting at 16 and was basically told I was hired to stand at the door and look pretty. An assistant manager would later give me tons of alcohol and wait until I was drunk to fool around with me. Someone else gave my phone number to a customer who I didn't know but apparently had a huge crush on me and was accused of arson. And those are just the immediate things I remember.

It was a shit show.

When I was 17 my first job was at a very popular pizza chain, and over time I found out one of my managers was a convicted sex offender and was not supposed to be in charge of minors.

That shit wasn't worth 7.75 an hour

Editing in more work stories because they're coming to me now.

Worked at a mall retail store where the manager would teach men how to do certain tasks but wouldn't teach me even though I asked multiple times. Also got bullied HARD by one of my coworkers but was too dumb and young to do anything about (I mean him coming into the lunch room specifically to tell me that the 12 year olds at the mall were more attractive than me, and other puzzling insults).
Oh and the manager straight up told me I needed to wear makeup once.

At my first office job one of the drivers (the business involved trucking) would make disgustingly sexual comments not to my face but to the other men that worked with him. He was widely disliked and I was friends with most of the men that worked back there so things eventually got back to me. Went to HR about it. Nothing happened. Also at the same job my female manager who was the hardest working person in the whole goddamn building was incredibly underpaid (she told me she was the lowest paid manager). Eventually quit after the head bosses daughter who was 19, pregnant, a spoiled fucking brat, and hated me for existing, basically gave me the ol switcheroo and took my office job and they tossed me in the dungeon.

I have way more stories but they mostly involve customers which I didn't really think counted since it isn't really something the company can control that much

I worked for EB Games (Gamestop in Canada). Nobody ever sexually harrassed me but there was a nonstop parade of dudes ready to "test" me on my knowledge before they'd deign to accept my help with whatever it was they needed.

Videogame phase during child and teenage years are fine, but as an adult it's become a clear red flag. All the LV people I know in my life still play video games.

Grown men who play video games are a major Ick for me but that aside -

A friend of mine worked at a game store in town and she always felt uncomfortable working there. She complained to the manager and he clearly didn’t see a big deal so she quit.

Guess who hit up her phone and asked her for a date after she quit? That’s right, the manager LOL. What a degenerate
