I'll never understand why they play this game. It happens almost all the time with me.
What do they get out of making us wonder if they care? Nobody wants to toss and turn at night worrying about if someone cares. I'll never subject myself to that again.
When they show a lack of trust and care (waiting 5 days to text back, for example), I avoid them. They usually come back complaining when it's too late because by then I usually find somebody else who shows they are interested.

I do this as well. I hate mind games with a passion. So many men do it as well,actually I think my current partner is the only man I've been with who doesn't do this behaviour. I cut my ex off 12 years ago and I still hear from him now and again.

It's a layover of ancient male inferiority complex. They're expendable, we're not. They've been punishing us ever since.
I mean seriously, what would happen if men were suddenly gone? Not too much. Women would have everything under control (like during WWII) and the population back up in less than a decade. If we disappeared? Human kind would die out.
