Why are they so fucking creepy? I once had a guy card me at my local gas station for buying a pack of cigarettes. Next time I went in, he literally asked me why I am not on social media. Lol. This dude knew I was 18+ because I was driving a damn car for several years. He just never had the chance to card me before, because I only paid for gas. He also knew that I have a husband. Fucking creeps.

I just order using character names from things like Harry Potter, Marvel, DC, stuff like that. I get a kick out of it, plus keeps me safe.

I've been using "Inigo Montoya" for years, but mostly because I'm utterly ridiculous and will beat a joke into the ground until it comes out the other side of the planet.

Even aside from this creepy interaction, I hate this practice so much and every fast food place asks for a name now to pretend they're being super-courteous and attentive. Just call my order by the number on my receipt!

And when they give you back your card or ID like "thank you miss __" so now everyone within earshot of the lobby knows my unusual last name. STOP!

There's this guy that has been stalking me on social media since at least 2017. I have no idea who he is and have never seen him in my life, but he found my Instagram and messaged me saying he has seen me at X store in Y mall, that I go to a lot because it's near my place. I blocked him there back then, only to receive a friend request on Facebook just a few weeks ago. Note that I only have my first name (which is very common in my country) on Instagram, so it's even weirder that he found my Facebook account. He's fucking creepy and I'm honestly scared that he got access to my info so easily

And if they ask you where you work or what you do, don’t answer that either. It’s so easy to find someone on LinkedIn with just a first name and job title, especially if you have a unique job/name or work in a male dominated field so you’re the only electrical engineer named Jane in a 100 mile radius.

When Starbucks brought this in I was staggered they didn’t consider the personal safety implications, especially for young women. Often I’m behind a group of teenage girls who give their names, if I was a creepy perv I could easily follow one of them elsewhere and approach them using their name, as a confidence trick that I somehow know them! I always say “it’s ok I can remember what I ordered thanks!”
