That was how I handled my divorce.

After knowing each other for 20 years, he didn’t just lie and cheat, he was attempting to establish an entire secret second life — which he failed at — with a...person who rented her furniture and looked like she got kicked in the face with golf shoes.

I took my portion of our shared assets, bought another house, picked up a gig as an entertainment writer, and started traveling.

He moved her in to our former home and as far as I can tell soon started cheating with a friend of hers.

I didn’t try to ruin his life, it was clear he was already doing that for himself.

Edit to add: thanks to mutual former friends telling me things I didn’t really want to hear, and me checking my site visitor locations regularly, I happen to know he continued to read my site for years, while the replacement replacement was threatening to poke his eyes out with a fork. As for me, the last time I laid my eyes on him, in pics or otherwise, was in court.

Ironically, posted in ExNoContact, when she went on to collab with him after he basically tried to murder her.

As boss as she is in many ways, that was a move I just didn’t understand.

I’m still stuck in anger and wanting revenge so punishment until I learn it’s not worth it :/ telling me it’s not with it won’t make me feel differently though

Nah. I understand the appeal of this because it gives women permission to walk away from things that are a fruitless energy suck while putting a go-girl spin on it. It's a call to defuse/disown anger, which is very in keeping with female socialization and probably sort of a soothing concept.

But... men need actual punishment for their shitty behavior if and when you can find ways to dole it out. Granted, finding those ways/opportunities is difficult and you shouldn't get caught up brooding on something you can't change or totally derail your life for a chance at striking back. That's a different lesson entirely though, it doesn't exclude seeing justice done where it can be.

Your success, happiness, etc. isn't any kind of revenge. There's a pretty good chance people that have screwed you over don't care one way or another about your happiness or your presence in their life yadda yadda, so removing them from your life is just bare minimum. Actual consequences - their day to day lives being negatively impacted - are what they would care about, if anyone was giving them those.

So take care of yourself, obviously, even if that means putting aside your anger and walking away. But don't act like turning the other cheek is the same as holding someone accountable in terms of likelihood to effect change, or that it improves your standing. Because that's big con designed to help sleazy people get away with bullshit if I ever heard one. The ideal thing is to accept anger when you have good reason to be angry and learn to use it constructively... but know how to manage it without dwelling.
