He thought porn was hardcore in 1989, but 2020 content is a whole new level of depravity. Bundy is still relevant to study today because many modern men share a similar belief in that they’re still “good guys, but have a dark side too”. This is more applicable to date rapists where they also dissociate from the act and their true selves. This is why they can walk around acting like they’re still good guys, because in their minds they actually believe it.

I would not use this “confession” as any sort of evidence, just like anything else that Bundy said. He was absolutely not someone whose words you should find any value in. There’s more context to this “confession”.

While the idea that violence and depraved porn certainly influence impressionable brains, especially while in early developmental stages, is valid, this interview was a complete farce. Bundy knew he was going to be interviewed by an ultra conservative politician, who was also a sociopath himself and was aiming to win over some religious voters with a strong stance against porn. It was a political manoeuvre, and I believe the politician didn’t really care about morality, porn or anything other than getting into power. I thought this interview was terrifying and disgusting, like watching a fight between a scorpion and a snake.

Bundy mistakenly thought the politician might be his last hope to get out of the electric chair, if he only became his mascot in the campaign, and so he did what psychopaths do: he starts off with whatever he thinks would be the right answer, but still being very neutral, using the body language to trick the viewer into believing his remorse etc. For a more experienced eye, you see straight through it, because his words, gaze and gestures don’t mesh at all. He then carefully listens and feeds back the politician his words as his own, amplifying here and there, watching for responses and then further tailoring his responses.

This is a fantastic learning opportunity about how skilled psychopaths present, especially with the psychologist’s commentary that’s also on YouTube, but for the porn argument I’d probably use some scientific research or a more credible speaker than Bundy.

Porn is awful but I wouldn't take anything Bundy said seriously. He was a master manipulator and knew how to tailor what he said to his audience. At this point in his life, he was trying to beat the electric chair and hoped a tearful confession about porn addiction would save his life. If memory serves, this interview was the day before his scheduled execution.

This interview is a great masterclass on how dangerous these offenders are. They're like chameleons and will have you believing whatever they want.
