i discovered shallon through FDS as well. i watched the videos that interested me and discarded the rest so i had no idea about all of this. i can't see her coming back from this drama unless she apologizes and acknowledges her behavior honestly with a commitment to changing. she would really have to do some soul-searching instead of coming back to her platform in a grey hoodie to apologize. d'angelo's video is nearly 1 million views (with other videos popping up steadily gaining traction and views) versus her views on a regular basis. she will be known and referenced for this more than anything else going forward, re: insensitivite viewpoints on mental health and suicide, the resurfaced video and everything else she has going on.

i will say that this is minor in the grand scheme of it, but i am a bit annoyed that we're being miscontrued after being name-dropped in relation to her. we share resources and videos that have personally helped us out, but that does not mean we endorse these people as our be all, end all. we call out behavior as we see it, and hold ourselves and others accountable--plain and simple.

I found out about her thru this sub. Watched a few episodes until I stumbled upon the o e when she said she’s bi but will only have sex with a woman in a threesome with a man present. A lot of women attacked her in the comments because they accused her of using the other women as a toy, for a mans use. I found it terrible tbh

My personal opinion about Shallon is that she does give some good advice, but she's problematic in many ways. I find her obsessions with celebrities 10-15 years younger than her weird and creepy. Generally speaking, I think people using celebrities' names and private lives for online clout is a dumb, shitty thing to do. But Shallon was also a tabloid journalist for many years, so she's just doing what she does best.

We gotta stop looking up to people and just look up to the advice. Shallow said some good stuff about warm blooded creatures, self esteem and dating. I don’t watch her often but a good amount of her vids are right. The ones that aren’t I just turn them off. Cherry pick the good and ignore the bad.

the thing where she attacks the partners and ex partners of her celebrity crushes, spreads blatant lies as if they are fact, and externalized her fantasy about making out with harry styles as if it was real is gross but like....... people are having a fit over her liking younger guys. thirst tweeting at a 15 year old was a disgusting thing to do, but where’s the same energy for all the guys in their mid twenties or older who thirst tweeted at billie Eilish when she was underage and then had virtual parties the day she turned 18??

I stopped watching her videos when she did a lot of explaining different mental disorders and illnesses, but vastly oversimplified them and explained them wrong, then used those wrong definitions to diagnose people she's never met. It just seemed like she was talking with authority about stuff she didnt have any idea about. Plus she's made a lot of comments on her videos about loving drama, and how if she's your friend, she's on your side, your enemies are her enemies and she'll cyberbully/threaten someone for you no problem. It just seemed really aggressive and scary, and with her talking about celebrities she doesnt know and harshly judging them as well, it was all reminding me a lot of my dad's wife who is an awful person and also terrifying.

I don't think you should rely on any one person for advice or support, but that's just me. Take bits and pieces from a variety of sources, like any emotional need. I'd also encourage anyone who does rely on public figures for emotional fulfilment to read up on parasocial relationships, that's the intro to a two part video series explaining what they are. Not saying you can't be a fan of someone and appreciate their advice, but be aware of how much you are connecting to them and how reciprocal that relationship really is.

As for Shallon makes some good points about things like being financially independent, not depending on external validation, and encouraging self reflection. I find her entertaining, even if most of the celebrity-related content doesn't really interest me. That said, she has said things here and there that struck me as a little bit off, like the "party lesbian" comment, being in favour of porn, saying to take credit for other people's work. I'm not entirely surprised she pissed off internet.

I checked her out via FDS too but honestly I found her vibe very...young and annoying? I figured it was just my taste.

Honestly, I can't stand Shallon, she seems the type to project fake confidence whilst being deathly jealous and putting down women more attractive and with more confidence than her which reeks of desperation. And at her age, she should know better ;).
