Scruffy aged man (Simon Baker) has a meeting with an "OLD-er" woman. I don't always scroll through the daily mail but when I do, it's posts like these that make me snort. Media is ready to devalue women and put scruffy men on pedestals. The comments call them out.

I watched this because a friend recommended it to me, and honestly, the thing that struck me most was how intelligently this guy picked a certain 'type' of woman.

All of these women were well-off, educated, intelligent, and some even had good boundaries. One of his victims literally rejected him romantically.

The one thing they all had in common was that they were around a certain socio-economic crowd a lot, but weren't necessarily part of it just yet. They were moving up in their careers and a few years away from making the kind of money their friends were already making. They were upper-middle-class women on their way to becoming truly rich.

That made it both plausible that a billionaire would be genuinely interested in them (after all, they HAD the education, the kind of job, the kind of lifestyle that is typical in such circles and regularly met people with that kind of money) but still gave him the allure of being 'special' because of his money. I don't think these girls were gold-diggers: gold-diggers wouldn't pay any man a cent, whereas these women obviously paid him quite a lot of money. Rather, he very intelligently targeted women for whom he represented a kind of social acceptance: the woman on her way to becoming 'new money' who was now accepted by the truly rich crowd because she had a friend/partner who was 'old money'.

Honestly, watching this really taught me how intelligently certain men can perceive markers of socio-economic status in women. The handbag that is expensive, but not Hermes. The fact that her coat and shoes might be designer, but her jeans are from Zara. The fact that she goes to expensive restaurants, but rather for lunch than for the more expensive dinner. That her hair is done by a very expensive hairdresser, but not dyed in such a way that she would have to go back- and pay- every month. The fact that she hangs around fancy hotels, but feels the need to take pictures of everything because it still feels 'special'. He really was able to spot that precise type of woman that was just on the cusp of true success and wanted desperately to be accepted by the it-crowd. Accordingly, these women were eager to pretend to be part of that crowd, pretend that a few thousand dollars were already just 'coffee money' for them, rather than acknowledge that that's just not the case at that point in their lives.

It really opened my eyes on how nuanced some men's perception of certain 'types' of women is. This old adage that men don't see whether your shoes are expensive or your manicure has grown out doesn't hold true for a certain type of man, and it's important to be aware that certain aspects of your life might be plainly visible to abusers and predators. Don't fall into the trap of believing that people perceive you exactly the way you want to perceived. Stand strong in your truth, your background, your true sense of self. That way, you can't be manipulated with it.

very good observation!

Rather, he very intelligently targeted women for whom he represented a kind of social acceptance: the woman on her way to becoming 'new money' who was now accepted by the truly rich crowd because she had a friend/partner who was 'old money'. He wasn't offering money so much as he was offering social acceptance into a group they were currently moving up into anyways.

what the hook was, even from the very beginning: he moved fast and "opened up" fast.

In short, this scrote love-bombed these women. he knew exactly how to manoeuvre them and impress them and force them into compliance. he made grand gestures (sending a Rolls limo to wait on one of the victims, being waited by staff and flying on private jets) that shocked these women and made them fear asking more questions. he practically knew every little thing he needed to do in order to numb their critical thinking side. It's all very Milgram experiment worthy.

Just like Anna Sorokin, the female fraudster, this guy is psychopathic and played that part to perfection.

Yes, it's bloody genius. The enemy of a fraudster is doubt. He managed to dispel all doubts about him really loving them. Had he targeted women who didn't have their shit together, they would eventually have doubted the mere fact that a billionaire is into them.

But these women? One of them literally had an ex who really was in the diamond trade. The other one worked in luxury fashion and had similar romantic experiences. Of course they believed that a billionaire was into them: That lined up with their lived experience.

These women weren't scammed the way delusional, fat-and-balding lower-middle-class scrotes who're sending money to some one pretending to be a twenty-year-old beautiful girl in Thailand are scammed. That's the kind of scams you look at and think 'Dude, how did you believe that?' But these women could plausibly believe that they were just meeting yet another guy who was similar to guys they had previously already dated. He was in their league.

And whilst they could believe a man like that would be into them, they still came from a background of non-billionaires. Their close childhood friends and family could not advise them on what is normal when dating that kind of guy, because they didn't know.

Honestly, even if he had really been a billionaire, he still would have been dangerous for them. You really can get screwed over by dating/marrying someone who has more knowledge about legal and financial affairs than you do. That's why it's important to have a consult with a lawyer alone before making any legal commitment to a man. Figure out what demands you have to bring to the negotiation table.

It was very smart of him to pick very attractive women. If it was a normal or unattractive woman like a lot of swindlers pick then her friends or her intuition would tell her something wasn’t right but since he picked very attractive women it didn’t ring as many alarm bells.

That, too! Their age, too. They were in their late twenties and early thirties, old enough that they could reasonably believe he wasn't looking for a sugarbabe, but an equal partner- that aided him in creating this vibe of 'we're a team, I share my life with you, I love you, your burden is my burden and accordingly, my burdens are yours'. It neatly slotted him into the type of 'young billionaire looking for very attractive, but still age-appropriate and roughly equal life partner' rather than the category 'young, rich LVM looking for sex'.

Looking at that very young Russian model he dated: I don't for one second believe that girl ever paid him a cent. Ironically, despite age gaps being predatory, in this particular instance, she escaped a different type of predation. She was still preyed upon sexually, but not financially. If you're 'dating' a self-aware sugarbabe, there's no way to create that 'us vs the world' dynamic because she's in it on a transactional basis.

he looks like an inarticulate scoliosis-ridden incel who thinks it's classy to have blond tips on his hair.

There’s really no excuse for men tbh Why do they complain so much? They are soooo lazy

[–]MuffcakelordFDS Disciple 21 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If i was gonna victim blame i'd call the women out for accepting:

That chin

His taste in glasses

His terrible photography skills

His insane obsession with brands and still looking like shit fashion-wise

His height (together with the other traits, the odds for being abusive due to insecurity is too high)

His love-bombing and clinginess

His dead eyes

Never accept any of these. Every each and one of these traits should be red flags in itself even if good men sometimes fall "victim" to some of them

[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice[S] 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

he was wearing mostly Gucci, rich in kitsch. also some versace. but the way he talked... that was his biggest giveaway. he didn't sound cultured at all, just mafioso.

[–]MuffcakelordFDS Disciple 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The clothes were ugly af the way he put them together. Screams "i desperately wish for the clothes to do fashion for me" in a way that makes them more obviously unfashionable than if they went with bland cheap clothes

I absolutely loved this dokumentary. Not only did it tell an insane story, the guy actually brought the lesson that mindset is everything as long as you're willing to pay with anything and everything of your pride, self respect, morals and so on. When he "lost" at the end, he still stuck to the last victim that ended up scamming him back and seemed almost like he was bragging about being on the streets and eating at "1 star" restaurants/hostels. He called himself "the homeless king" and it cracked me up. Even after jail which was for only a few months every time, he just came back stronger every time and continued to earn insane amounts of money purely from scams anf other crimes. The only losers in the story was somehow the victims of his scams, even though that shouldn't even be possible if there's any justice in the world. Apparently there simply isn't as long as you travel a bit while scamming, and as long as you pick victims that the system won't care too much about, like middle class people and women.

Another point i loved is how he consistently said "every action has a reaction" directly after HE made a massively evil step. This is a thing all narcissistic abusers say one way or another even if it makes no sense to speak of karma or consequences directly after having done something bad.

I feel terrible for the women. He ruined lives and noone paid these women back apparently, but there's also so much to learn from this doumentary. Like; never give a man money, especially if he's your boyfriend. And always adapt to any situation to the best of your power. Be proud of who you are and people will have to bend to you rather than the other way around. And finally; never talk to an abuser or scam artist as if you were real and true people. Hold the cards close and scam them back if possible rather than trying to confront them, since it has no positive effect.

Oh, and disney made us naive.

[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice[S] 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

disney is a fucking scourge. there's nothing pretty about it except the art, maybe... and not even that.

Another point i loved is how he consistently said "every action has a reaction" directly after HE made a massively evil step.

gee... yes, I remember that! to me it sounded like a massive threat. poor Cecilie, she is a real fighter. I got emotional when she admitted she put herself in a psych ward. that's the level of abuse she was under. deep, tremendous psychological abuse.

the "tinder swindler" is scammer Simon Leviev who conned millions of dollars out of victims using the popular online dating app. Though he disguised himself under various aliases, the swindler is widely recognized as Simon Leviev, who claimed he worked in dangerous diamond business and was the son of billionaire Israeli diamond oligarch Lev Leviev. He conned an estimated 10 million dollars out of women he attracted on the popular dating app, Tinder.
