According to the abstract of the study:

(1) it is based on self assessments of the porn users (~200 of them). Not their partners.

(2) it seems that the main point of the assessments was to document if the couple had sex in the days after porn consumption. Having sex does not equal good sex life / feeling desired, safe, etc, as we all know.

(3) it was a 35 day study. This is not the way to learn about the long lasting effects of pornography (and indeed they intended to study the short term, and not as the clickbait suggests).

And: it’s a sexy topic to write about to get some media attention & mainstream media is patriarchal. Pornography itself is a billion dollar industry. We should always consider the relevant atmosphere and the possible influences.

I call bs on this “study”. Head on over to the relationship advice subreddit and at least once a day some poor woman posts on there about her boyfriend/fiancé/husband choosing porn over sex.

What about all the studies where doctors are reporting young men in their 20s are requesting Viagra because they can’t get it up due to their overexposure to porn?

Generally you can't really measure this because researchers historically have had a hard time finding a control group of men who do not watch porn.

In order to really be able to see the effects of porn you'd probably need a study where no one initially watches porn, and then you introduce it to half of relationships, then measure the long term effects over time.

I think there are more important metrics as well. Like the following:

Did everyone have an orgasm?
Was ED a problem?
Did you feel pressured to have sex in a way you didn't want to?
Did you ever prefer sex to pornography?
Also straight up asking, do you feel pornography had interfered with your sex life or relationship? Does your partner watching porn make you feel uncomfortable?

All of these questions have an answer that will end up describing what happens for most relationships. I suspect the answers aren't as clear cut as "porn has absolutely no consequences". However, even if that were true, that's representative of an average, not your relationship specifically. I know that if a guy I was seeing watched porn, and I knew it, I would be unhappy or not in that relationship. Especially with social sciences like this, don't take a small study as a way that you should live your life - more psych studies can't even be replicated. You have to do what makes sense for you.
