Every man on the planet thinks he's a good guy. They can only empathize with other men, whom they also believe are good guys.

Seeing as they're all such good guys, it's unfathomable that there are men who just.. abuse, rape, murder, coerce and touch kids because they want to. Because they like it. Because it benefits them. Because abusing and screaming and punching feels good. Because they snap one day in a paranoid, unfounded, jealous rage.

But no, she must have done something to provoke this calm, rational, unemotional, lovely bloke.

I never wonder what the woman "did" to her boyfriend or husband. I always think of what led up to it before he murdered her - how badly was he treating her before he finally took her life? Did her family know he was an abusive asshole before she was kiLL3d? Did the woman send out any SOS signals to family and friends low-key implying her partner was a piece of shit? Any of those things cross my mind. It never, ever goes to "what did SHE do for him to be so angry?" We all know men can't control their emotions and expect women to do that for them. Women are somehow seen as responsible for their husband's anger, his cheating, his work performance, his income, his whatever. Men just snap because they're animalistic and place all blame on women. They justify their abuse of girls and women with something she did, whether it be look at the man wrong, say something he didn't like, have her own opinions, wear the "wrong" clothing, anything. They will always blame women, even after they've kiLL3d her.

I'm a true crime junky (trying to stop watching true crime because I don't think it's good for my mental health though) and I get absolutely shocked with the victim blaming that goes constantly in the true crime community. There are whole subs and fb groups defending Chris Watts. Even in cases where they're not blaming the wife/gf or wondering what she did to deserve this, they'll blame the mistress (there's usually some sort of cheating involved) as if it was the mistress that somehow pointed a gun to their heads to kill their partner and children.

In one breath, they’ll say a woman who was murdered by her abuser should have left earlier, so she brought it upon herself, and then in the next breath, they’ll say the man was forced to murder his wife because she was mean to him or something… like why couldn’t he just leave if she was oh so evil?

The fact that provocation is a legitimate legal defence to murder (usually when a man is so ‘provoked’ by catching an adulterous act) means they truly believe murder is justifiable. And they have written it into the law

Yes, my father used to "joke" about it all the times we saw some horrible news like that. I think it is a consequence of the "all men benefit from the violence done to women". They can joke about it as a reminder that they still have all the power here.
