I am at a new plane of existence in my life.

I avoid saying "I'm the happiest I've ever been" only because that sentence doesn't feel right coming from me after my mother, who was my best friend has passed away.

I was sitting with my father and his best friend (my chiropractor) drinking coffee one morning when my dad expresses his disappointment at my being single. And all of a sudden I realized why I really was single. I'd had guys express interest in me, but "he seems nice" wasn't enough to get me attracted to them. I was single because I liked my independence, and maybe that would change, but only for a different, higher breed of man. Until then, I am thrilled to be by myself. I love myself, and it took getting rid of LVM for that to happen.

"I mean, I'm starting to worry you might never get married. Or have kids." He says. I look up from my coffee.

"Why do you say it like it's a bad thing?"

"I just... I want you to have a support system."

"I do. I have you two, and my brother and sister... their spouses, my future nieces, nephews, my aunts, uncles, I have an enormous support system. As far as I'm aware it's not going away quickly enough for me to throw myself at every boy who thinks he's worth my time."

And that's 100% everything. I think of relationships and just kind of cringe. I'm not willing to settle any more. And I really hope it's something all of you lovely ladies gets to enjoy. Because I've been focusing on me, and myself, I've thrown more of myself in to this job than I have any previous job, was promoted after 3 months, fought for and got a second raise 4 months after that, and now, a year and 4 months after my initial hire, I'm being considered for a second promotion! I'm doing awesome in life!

And I will never need a man to make me feel good about myself ever again.
