As women we feel this perverse, strange guilt every time we ask for something, or every time we're bothered by men's behavior. We tamp down our feelings and our instincts and we give so much and accept the little we're given with a smile, because we expect so little that anything is a treasure. No more of that shit. It's a hard shift to make in your perspective, that you deserve more, but every time you think you're asking for too much, ask yourself:
How many times did you stay quiet when men around you were saying things you found unacceptable, because you didn't want to be a target and you didn't want to lose friendships? How many times have you tried so hard to work out an argument with a significant other only for him to pout, have a tantrum, or give you the silent treatment, and how many times did you blame yourself for that happening? How many times did you ask him to do a simple task and he "just forgot, because it's not a big deal" and then got mad when you called him out? How many birthdays, relatives' birthdays, big holidays did you plan, and how many times did he "forget" or ignore or do the bare minimum? How many times did you bring him something from the grocery store, or the mall, or a restaurant, as a tiny thoughtful gesture that he would never reciprocate? How many times have you picked up after him? How many times did you come home and were relieved that he finally did the dishes FOR ONCE? How many times did you bite your tongue about the household chores he didn't do, because you knew the argument it would lead to? How many times was he praised for the bare minimum involvement as a dad while you were nitpicked for everything as a mom? How many times were you blamed for "turning him" childfree when you knew it was a mutual decision in the first place? How many times did he try to use you as an excuse to his friends about why he couldn't do something? How many orgasms have you faked? How many excuses have you made? How many arguments have you soothed or walked on eggshells to avoid? How many friends did you reassure that "he's not like that, it's not like that, I swear"? How many second chances and benefits of endless doubts did you hand out like Halloween candy because you didn't want to be [insert negative thing here]?
No more. FDS is about reciprocating the energy that you get, and wanting a partner that is just as much of a partner to you as you are to him. When you ask for more, you're asking for the type of partner that you've been your entire life, that you want to be to others. Stop feeling guilty about asking for more. We've given more and more and more our entire lives. We deserve to take, too.
