So I was talking to a family friend last night (our family came over to theirs for dinner.)

And he brought up Onlyfans. He talked about how a girl he went to school with made one and made heaps of money off of it. She was popular so she had a lot of old classmates signing up.

I didn’t think much of it except that she probably wasn’t making that much. It’s sold as a pipe dream to teenage girls, which is disturbing. I wouldn’t recommend onlyfans to anyone just because you get a lot of creeps sending death threats or other disgusting messages. Not only that but due to cultural misogyny, it makes it hard to get a job after. And you’ll have to deal with the social stigma for the rest of your life.

But the guy kept talking and said that it was disgusting and not a real job. He also kept making comments and slut shaming other girls he knew. Talking about who they hooked up with at parties.

And honestly... I don’t know what to say. I didn’t speak up because I’m shy and don’t want to cause trouble in real life. But I feel wrong for not doing it.

My mum and other women were a part of the conversation but didn’t say anything and just played along.

I hate that when men are anti porn or anti sex work, it’s usually just because they’re misogynistic. I rarely ever hear them speak about the abuse of the porn industry, or the reality of sex work.

It’s just another way to shame and control women and that makes me sad. Where are the men that genuinely support these causes?
