A few points on yt:

- If my info is not completely outdated, downvotes help you as much as upvotes, because both indicate "user engagement" and therefore relevancy.

- Don't let downvotes stop you. You don't know if those come from the angry "bee hives" or not. If people genuinely see your contribution as harmful, they'll tell you.

- Ask your son for help. He certainly knows how to keep my attention looool

- Put effort into the thumbnails.

It's something that small channels often overlook, and it's really important. It's the first impression you make, and what people will use to decide if they want to click. Currently, there's a picture of you in every thumbnail. That's good, because it makes it easier to recognize your videos, and it communicates that it's a video of a woman talking about something.

You could do better on communicating what you talk about though. The font is small, sometimes covered by the time stamp, and the colors are hard to read. Besides, it would be better if you could represent the topic of the video visually.

For example, for "8 things men want [but won't ask for]" you could put something in the thumbnail that either men stereotypically want; or the complete opposite. That way you'd bait the clicks of those who want to see if you're really so out of touch to argue that, as well as those who want to see you bash those stereotypes. And it'd give more the impression of a lighthearted, entertaining, slightly ranty video. Right now when I look at the thumbnails, I expect being lectured, and that doesn't do it justice.

That being said, that's just my take based on what I see on youtube, I don't run a channel, so take it with a grain of salt and experiment.

I'm not much of a YouTuber but I'll try to keep up with your channel.

So far I like what you're doing ;).

The format reminds me a of a lot of other popular YouTube personalities. Your thumbnails stand out and are recognisable, for example (I'm sure u/_-_010_-_ knows what they're talking about with the advice they gave you there, but overall I think it looks good).

I'm not sure what you have to do to get popular. I think a lot of it is luck. But for such a small and new channel, you already have a lot of comments and views on your videos.

Just watched the first video and I liked your list of things to look for.

I sought out therapy/counselling for the first time in 2020 (just before COVID) and then continued it over the phone. It was prompted by what I later realised was an anxiety attack while on holiday.

Rather than "stuck", I'd describe the first thing as "flat". I didn't feel enthusiasm for anything, but I also didn't feel sad. A friend who was also a counsellor was very careful with words when I mentioned it to her - she probably realised that I was a bit terrified of the word "depression".

I think there is a whole lot of really useful work that could be done in terms of promoting men's mental health. Trying to explain and separate the genuinely useful psychology life advice from the APA and marriage counselling bullshit, for instance. However, my feeling is that useful approaches to men's mental health will at minimum actively map out some level of disagreement between therapist approaches. In this vein, I'm open to hearing more, but I am extremely suspicious of your approach to and understanding of stoicism as an adaptive trait.

Watching anther video, I'm quite annoyed looking at this chart. As far as I can tell, this is truly fucked psychology speak. Technical speech is best when it isn't turning vernacular speech on its head. Looking through definitions online assertiveness is closely related with aggressiveness, and vaguely an antonym of negotiating and compromising language like 'accomodating'. While there can be room for negotiation in the term assertiveness, for the most part assertiveness is at its best when it finds a desirable outcome without any compromise. Similarly, there is nothing wrong with holding hard boundaries (that is to say, demands) or disregarding one's own rights to create a mutually beneficial situation. Except for 'negotiate', 'honor', 'of', and 'the' every one of these words feels like a misdirection to me. Maybe I'm just weird though.

Later on in the video I worry a little bit that the male experience in a relationship is not understood well. The insistence on being heard and expressing feelings, I think, is a mistake, and possibly a misunderstanding of why stoicism can be and often is adaptive in relationships. Rather than communicating feelings in general, it may be useful to specify something more concrete: needs, desires, respect, etc.
