Frequently on reddit I see the main objection to circumcision is the lack of consent.

I think the reason for this is that while they don't like the practice they are mostly against it for consent reasons. They do not think it is harmful enough to ban consenting adults from doing it to themselves. People can already mess up their own body in so many ways so why should circumcision in particular be banned?

I am mostly against it for consent reasons but I am still in favor of it being generally banned unless it is deemed medically necessary of course. Since female genitalia are off limits for any operation which isn't medically necessary so too should male genitalia.

Consent is still the most important part. The physical damage is obviously important as to why that consent is necessary, but it’s a perfectly fine procedure if the patient is a consenting adult. We don’t ban things just for causing physical harm, otherwise tobacco and alcohol would be illegal.

While the physical damage is absolutely an important thing to bring up, the reason consent (and bodily autonomy) are and should be brought forward first is because it's an understandable concept. Only cis men and trans women will understand the physical damage aspect inside Western individualism, but cis women and trans men understand the concept of consent and bodily autonomy.

I like to compare it to tattoos.

No parent in the world would give ther newborn a tattoo, while tattoos are objectively less harmfull and more reversible than circumcisions.

Male circumcision is an evil practice normalized in the US because of toxic masculinity, money, and religious purposes, where I'm from male circumcision is looked down upon in our culture and very few men are circumcised in my country

Completely disagree. Even if circumcision did no physical damage, unnecessary body modification without consent would still be a massive issue to me. By contrast, if the procedure was consensual, I wouldn’t care about the things you mention.

Besides, the specific amount of damage it does has been debated a lot. By contrast, the lack of consent is objective and indisputable.

While lots of circumcised men feel their sensitivity is not impacted, it’s important to point out that a significant number of men do lose so much sensitivity that they have difficulty maintaining erections and achieving orgasm. This often gets worse over time due to the keratinization of the exposed glans.

My argument is why take the risk of that happening to your own son? Wouldn’t you regret that you had done that to him?
