A lot of the female empowering songs out there were either written completely by men (like Respect and You Don't Own Me) or at least co-written by them usually the more difficult part of making a melody.

The press release and the whole way it was orchestrated was far too professional and obviously planned out for it to just be the work of a 16 year old.

This was obviously a load of shit before it was even discovered that the work was written by someone else.

I’m not sure of I’m ever gonna see a truly proficient and professional female programmer (one that can master 12 programming languages + haskell and be truly productive). I truly wish there were some, but I’ve been disappointed again. and again. and again.

they all tend to be mimics (hello copy paste) or socially skilled to offload all their work to willing males. It’s truly disappointing to see what the ”future females” produce.

the unfortunate fact is that male code runs most of the critical functions. it is a true meritocracy — either your code works or not. men tend to take it up a notch by optimizing everything (code quality, execution time, maintainability) and females ... well, don’t. it is a shitshow.

yet everyone is for hiring more of that kind of programmers? ah well — more job security for me.

the general whining that they bring with them starts to get on my nerves, though. the hypothetical upsides are def not worth the trouble they bring

I don't know why this app story got so much attention in the first place. Scratch that, I missed that the "16 year prodigy" was supposed to be a girl. The app in itself is nothing a dedicated 16 year old couldn't do. It would take some time and commitment but there is enough material out there to get started into programming.

I read through this all and followed all the links. I’m a very experienced developer. This Vivek guy comes off as a douche and doesn’t present any smoking gun, despite his assertions. The so-called threats were not threats at all. The girl may or may not have built the app herself, but going after a 16 y.o. kid like that is clearly crossing a line.

I don’t know all the facts and all we can do is wait and see what this girl does or doesn’t produce over the coming months and years. If she’s a fraud, she won’t get far anyway. She’ll have her 15 mins of fame and that will be that. Sure, she may well be a thot in the making, but right now she’s still a kid and hounding her on Facebook is a bit low.
