Back in the day, a woman who was not a virgin was worth significantly less in a marriage situation. Also, infidelity was not tolerated. These days, slutdom is celebrated, so they have no consequences. A woman can be a slut who cheated on all her boyfriends and some loser will still wife her up.

When husbands would "cheat" they would keep the whole thing just that - an affair, a sexual fling that would go no further than the occasional late-night rendezvous, and still be committed to their wives and children.

Women, however, when cheating, will make up any lie on the spot to try and absolve themselves of responsibility, and will be willing to permanently ditch their kid and partner for a Chad they fucked a couple of times.

As another user said, it's not just this, other moral values/principles have diminished too. Many personal/social principles which require mental effort, self-control or a "shame culture" to uphold seem to have gone the same way as fidelity (which is also why we have "body positivity").

How did we get here?

That's a short question with a long answer. Part of it is this: When society becomes safe and comfortable, the degenerates (many of whom are male) come out to play, and they fuck things up badly. Women become prominent in society and compete with men for traditionally male roles. Women hate rules like "only fuck the man you're married to", because they want to fuck chads, it's their nature. For them almost everything is about sex and freedom to do what you like with no responsibility. Anything that restricts them in these matters is "misogynist". When women and male degenerates take traditional male roles, especially leadership, they try to throw these rules out.

When things are difficult and dangerous, Darwinism takes over and we are forced to go back to traditional roles and societies.

We have been safe and comfortable for a long time, and we're seeing the consequences of it.

Cheating has been normalized more over the past 20 years. I started noticing this around the time Sluts in the City started to get popular. It’s been downhill since.

Men still get vilified depending on their circumstances, though. But women have their grrl power consortium and white knight brigade backing them up. Affairs used to be carefully hidden, but women have embraced their hypergamy with an unfounded abandon.

If you honestly inquire as to why it's become so commonplace to see cheating in the past generation or so? The nation as a whole has turned away from Christianity. Beginning largely in the 60s with the counterculture movement.

I don't want to start a religion discussion. Whether a person believes in God or not, or however they see the supernatural. But it's important to note that religions across the board create a moral compass for the followers. An internal mechanism to guide their decisions. Summed up most succinctly by the Golden Rule "Do unto others as you would have done unto you."

With the replacement of Christianity specifically, and religion in general, we no longer see an overarching guiding set of morals. It's all about individuals making up the most convenient "morals" for themselves that benefit them and nobody else. Regardless of the damage and destruction their selfish, evil decisions cause. And woe be to any that judge it as such.

Cheating on a partner is one such moral of convenience. It's selfish, self-centered, and completely disrespectful of the person to whom you have made a vow in some manner. It's dishonorable, but in a culture where honor no longer means much since 1000 fish bowls means 1000 different views on morality... there is no rote standard.

Religion, and the belief that there is a God that has set rules for you, isn't about telling you "No" just for giggles. It's because he sees these things as harmful. To your soul, to your family, to your society, to the world. We are currently reaping what we have sown in a country where Christianity has been chased out the door and replaced with the Hollywood Gods and Idols. How is that working for us? as Dr. Phil would ask.

I'm 41 y/o. This shit seems like it happened fast. I think right around the time of smart phones, wireless internet, and social media all coalescing into an unholy union. Female ability to get attention from many men, in secret even, skyrocketed. They could no longer resist because dicks were literally flying at their faces.

So, this is in the last decade or so. Before that, a girl that was known to cheat had a bit of a scarlet letter and guys didn't date her seriously and girls at least paid lip service by calling her a slut.

A good friend's GF is an admitted "former" ho. She admits to cheating on past husbands and boyfriends but swears she has changed (yeah right). Anyways, a married guy we know is out with another woman, pretty brazenly. I comment on it and she says "staying faithful in a marriage doesn't matter these days".
