They technically get paid more. Iirc they get 13% or so if the revenue brought in while the men get like 6%. But the men's soccer brings in so much that they still end up with a larger paycheck.

In this case the women actually made more money than the men in general. The reason being that the men and women teams have different pay structures. The men get payed based on how many games they play, and if they win. Since the men failed to even qualify for the world cup, US soccer didn't pay them for the games they didn't play. The women get payed a flat rate, regardless of performance or whether or not they even play.
Their whole "equal pay" argument was based on the fact that if they had the same pay structure as the men, they would have made MORE money than what they did. The kicker is that the reason they have a different pay structure is because THEY FUCKING WANTED IT THAT WAY. They rejected the same pay structure as the men during collective bargaining because they wanted a stable salary, irrespective of performance.

Ironically, their negotiation for 'stability' is no longer what they want to remain stable since in hindsight had they negotiated differently the calculation would have come out to more. Quite typical - always the victim. But one day, the net price for all the female foolishness will arrive.

Exactly. Of course they're claiming they'll be filing an appeal but I dont see it going anywhere. They got paid according to the contract they negotiated.
Can you imagine how full the courts would be if people could renegotiate contracts after the fact? Surely, the Minnesota Vikings would renegotiate the 7 draft picks for Herschel Walker trade, or Mike Ditka might want to renegotiate the whole draft for Ricky Williams.

Well, to an extent. There are sports that women are good at, and enjoyable, and then there are the ones that aren’t. Women’s beach volleyball for example. They’re pretty good, and in bikini’s, extra bonus. Stuff like track and field, tennis even. But any contact sport like basketball, football, hockey, rugby. I’d rather watch paint dry.

If somebody made me coach of a WNBA team the first thing I'd do (assuming I couldn't fill the roster with true and honest Evelyns formerly known as Edward) is bring on board 12 wamen willing to run up and down the court full-tilt for fifty minutes, and willing to go full-court man to man pressure for at least half the game.
edit: The WNBA has four ten minute quarters. The NBA has four twelve minute quarters. Just looked it up. Men's games are 20 percent longer, lol. Shouldn't they be pushing for longer games, to smash the patriarchy, etc.🙄 (And, FWIW, college games are two twenty minute halves. The WNBA has the easiest time of it.)

Funny story about the WNBA: the NBA subsidizes them, and takes the brunt of their net loss every year. Essentially, each year the NBA pays millions to keep the WNBA in business. No one mentions this fact, however. Ungrateful bastards. Women themselves usually can’t even be bothered to watch the sport.

Agreed with the volleyball but tennis???? No, for me that is also like watching a 6th grader play tennis...I'll pass, some with the track and field. I can go to the local Junior High to watch at the women's level. Just my two cents. Plus that is why no one go's to women's events and spends money on it....except for the volleyball with it's added visual benefits. I think they also tried women's football wearing lingere but that too soon last it's appeal.

In short: the women's team chose a different pay rate model which maximized based pay regardless of performance, at the cost of foregoing additional bonuses for games won. If they had instead lost the season they wouldn't be harping about it now.
But they won the world cup, something they did not anticipate. This is the part they are arguing is unfair: they believe because the bonuses could have been paid out, had they chosen the pay-by-play model in the first place, they should be allowed to retroactively change the contract to have the additional $64 million in bonuses.
To be clear, the U.S. women's team had already won the world cup three times before 2019, so it is not a pie-in-the-sky dream like it is for the men's team. They just chose the safer payment model because they still doubted their own ability, and they want us to forget about it and pay them regardless of how they initially felt the season would go.

They probably chose the safer salaries because their club salaries weren't all that great. After all, there is not that much money in women's professional soccer. Combine that with the female propensity to play it safe, the result is that they didn't take the risk. But that is hardly the men's team or US Soccer's fault. No takesies backsies, ladies.

Great. Cause yes, male sports attract a higher audience, therefore, they get payed more. Perhaps something is wrong among women, as you'd think they'd show more support for women's teams. As usual, they want equality, like in many other times, they tend to not understand that for you to get the same paycheck you have to do the same, in this case, I doubt the cup they play amazes not even 10% of the male counterpart. They agreed to a payment system that resulted in a higher percentage of revenue.
The fact that this was accepted means the judge recognizes that it is appropriate to connect pay with the revenue the women bring in. If he didn't recognize that, then it would be tantamount to saying that women sports doesn't need to be profitable, but the men's sports not only need to be profitable, but have to give money to women. It would have turned the lack of profitability of women's sports into a legally binding entitlement from men.
