Yes. In the software engineering world people care more about skills than a piece of paper.

Start your portfolio to show them your skills. Have 4 or 5 projects completed in your GitHub and maybe sign up for a hackathon or two.

Absolutely. Coding doesn't require a degree. Internet has everything to learn from. Pick one language and start learning and coding in it. Python and JavaScript are very demanding. I know a guy on Twitter who started learning JavaScript at 30 and now is a very influencing web developer.

Angular framework is very demanding at industrial level to develop websites. A 10 hours YouTube course on Angular will be enough to start your career.

A degree is pointless and experience can be practical. But the most important thing is motivation!

If you got some skills and you start looking for a job, make sure you show them your motivation. Don't just send in a letter and expect an answer. No, call them up and ask what's up? Even go for an unpaid part time internship or something. Don't take a no laying down.

I run a business myself and I'm more interested in really motivated people then anything else. Of course, the basic skills are necessary too.

What language are you learning and what is your end goal in developing at a company?

Unity 3D also has some fun learning classes online for free. If you wanted to learn c#.

Not sure about unreal engine. Never used that.

The answer is YES!

I was a history major in college and I started to learn how to code without a professor and it was fun. That was in 1996, and now I make website for a living and am continuing to learn to code. My advice would be to find a book on programming, namely C programming. Once you have learned that or have an understanding of it, learn C++.

Once you have the fundamentals, most programming languages inherit their semantics from C/C++ and you will see it is just an adjustment on how to program in like PERL, PHP, Java or JavaScript.

Be prepared to have your heart broken when things don't work and you're there for hours but believe me, it is worth the journey and once you take your time, and open your mind you will see there are so many things you can do! Most importantly, have fun! I can not stress this enough.

In the USA, no. Except for sales and Mcjobs, there are no jobs that require no experience. A portfolio helps, but you must get past the catch-22.

Yes, some companies offer skills and expertise assessments through interviews or a trial period. You'll basically have the same chance to integrate the company as someone with several years of experience if your learning path is well thought and made you efficient.

Yes; once you've got some competence have a look at Freelancer and similar piece work project sites for income, and open source projects for experience.

It's a long haul but it is possible. Chap I knew came in to software engineering from a half baked philosophy degree and managed a modest success.

The short answer is yes, I have been a programmer for 30 years and I have done exactly 1 week of official courses in my entire career. I do however work for myself and have always been an autodidact.

Start by taking any job in IT no matter how shity. Build your experience not only by doing trainings, but by creating your own projects.

Yes, my Friend is a software engineer self taught. He doesn't even have a college degree, he learned the MERN stack in 3 mos, built a portfolio for a job hunt and now makes well over 10k a month. From beginning to getting a job took him a little less than 1 year. Most of the people he's hired since getting the job were also self taught (no degrees or certs that have anything to do with programming).

The coworker whose programming technique at my company of ~50 devs I admire the most did not even graduate from high school.

Of course his worldviews are a bit... unconventional, but it's rare to be able to poke major flaws in his work.
