Me - 6 more years of child support. Still paying off credit card debt from her. Drove a shit car until the repairs were way too expensive to be worth it and bought a newer car. She’s got her hubby to pay her bills though. Once CP is done I will have to cram money into my 401k/IRA for the next 25+ years so I’m not working until I die

Congrats brother. You stayed the course and persevered. Nothing is as unfair and soul crushing as the child support payments that courts impose on men. I feel your pain.

I'm 13 years into child support payments on two kids. The oldest turns 18 in just over 4 years. In that time, I've been back to court numerous times trying to get it adjusted and for instances where my exes were in contempt for violating parenting/visitation agreements. The courts DO NOT give a shit what moms do. My son's mom is literally a pill popper with multiple felonies... not even that was enough for me to get full custody.

I've lived in shitty apartments, driven beaters, and even filed for bankruptcy back in 2013 due to overwhelming legal fees and child support.

The good news is that there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel and I'm finally making enough at my main job where I don't have to Uber or deliver pizzas on the side to make ends meet. Also, the chickens have come home to roost with both exes. My 13 year old daughter has completely turned on her mom and gets along really well with me. My son's mom is likely nearing the end due to rampant drug use, cancer, and anorexia.

If women had to endure the things that men are just expected to deal with, there would be widespread female homelessness and suicide. All that "strong, independent" bullshit flies out the window when you get hit with a $1400/mth CS order.

Congrats to you. Hopefully you aren't too old to enjoy your new "raise!"

I hear you brother. I haven't been on a vacation in ages, yet she can plead poverty and go on 2-3 flyouts a year. It's ok though. I live well, and I am content. Love my kid , too

It does get better on the other side. I work in a very high divorce profession that makes well over 6 figures annually. Most of my cohort at late 30s early 40s are entering the divorce years. They are ejected from their homes and have about 15 years of child support payments. I am divorced (short marriage, <2years and no kids. No support payments, easy split). I got lucky. Yet, I can see first hand your situation playout over multiple colleagues lives.

Now it’s time to get a vasectomy, pay down the debt and fund your retirement account. Owning property is nice, but it’s a liability until it’s generating money for you. Live small and rent cheap. I am a minimalist and buy little consumer goods. The less I have, the more happy I am.

I still date the 20 something bracket, but don’t get too attached - a mistake I’ve made. Just remember the cardinal rules: never cohabitate, impregnate or marry.

My tally is $156,000 when all is said and done. She makes $17 an hour and drives a $50K vehicle. Try to bring that little fact up to a judge when asking for a reduction and he looks at me like I’m a fucking deadbeat

This just happened to my buddy. He was a fuck boy for a while and ended up fucking the wrong chick. About 2 years ago she had the kid and DNA test confirmed it was his. She’s been collecting child support from his previous income from a part time job of $30K. He said about $250 a pay check is currently deducted. She recently asked the court for a review of his income and he’s now making over $50K at a sales job with a lot of bonuses and is speculating they’ll take $1000 a month if not more and he’s crushed. Doesn’t know what to do and he’s experiencing severe anxiety.

I’m so relieved I’m not in that situation. I’ve rolled the dice before and at age 36 I can say I’ve been very lucky. I don’t know how he’ll get out of it. I don’t think he will. RIP Hollywood.

9 more years for me, I try to take it in stride. I hope my child is happy and safe. I hope some day she expresses interest in getting to know me and her mother is receptive. I'm blessed that outside of the basic support, her mom hasn't asked for more. 9 years down, 9 more to go friends. Pray for one another.

Did the paycheck deductions stop automatically on a certain date or did you explicitly have to go back into court to have the order rescinded? If you have more than one kid, did you go back for an order change after the first kid aged out?

MGTOW is the only answer. Seeing the inequality you had to deal with in the divorce/family court process should be sobering to any man.

It's just not worth it. Some men want kids, and that's great, but it probably would be better to never marry anyone that gets pregnant and rather just fight for 50/50 custody when the kid is born, and the paternity test shows it's yours.

It's the marriage and divorce that ruins mens' lives.

Great that you've put it all behind you, now you can invest in yourself.

I love my daughter too but now pay $1,162 per month in CS.

My income is $120k (now. It was 90k at the divorce and she thinks I still make that). Hers is 50k. At the divorce, I walked away with about 40k and she walked away with about 120k. First thing that she did when she found out how much cs she is going to get is buy a 50k truck. With legal bills and everything else, my 40k was mostly gone in a year and a half while she has stacks of cash and takes a decent portion of my take home. I am starting over and she talks about "how successful" she is.
